Most people order a kilo per person and clean the plate completely. A friend of mine who reside in Addis, admitted to me eats one kilo per day the whole week except for Wednesdays and Fridays. Add a few glass of draft beer with that, one could easily spend upwards of $2000 Birr per meal. I don’t know how they afford it. The meat taste is totally different than what i grew up eating; it is tasteless, as if one is eating Sam’s Club meat which is frozen and unfrozen multiple times before it gets sold.

Most Ethiopian ethnics ear raw meat but it is more popular in Amara, Oromo and Gurage cultures.

Beef was the only raw meat eaten in Ethiopia, however, it is also fashionable to eat raw goat meat today (which is disgusting). On my last visit to Ethiopia last summer, I have seen hundreds of restaurants with proudly displaying an ad on their entrance that says they now serve raw goat meat. I don’t know what animal be eating raw in Ethiopia; hope they don’t attempt eating raw chicken

I know this is another topic, but I just would like to know it while we're at eating meat. Do Eritreans too eat raw meat, or is it only Ethiopians that eat raw meat?
If we were, then you wouldn’t see us making’s fun of Ethiopians eating raw meat. Nonetheless, many Eritreans, including me who are raised in Ethiopian eat raw meat as it is a norm in that country, however, in many Eritrean households in Ethiopia, it was still remind a taboo.

The eating raw meat culture is slowly coming to Eritrea, brought mainly by the deportees but it is not catching as fast although meat in Eritrea is a lot cheaper ($120/Nakfa per kill) and more athletic than the current Ethiopian meat ($900-$1300 per kill in Birr) that is tasteless due to a GMO pills given to the cattle to gain weight. It is criminal to raise cattle with GMO and pills in Eritrea and one could get years of prison time while it is a fashion to feed pills to cattle in Ethiopia and receive no consequences from the government and also encouraged by the restaurant owners who see the fluffy unnatural meat as customer attraction tool.

Thanks.

Could also answer the following:

Do all Ethiopians eat raw meat, or is it exclusive for people of particular ethnic backgrounds?

Why do Ethiopians eat raw meat, as I don't think it's tastier than cooked meat?

Does the raw meat that Ethiopians eat come only from lamb/goat, or do they also eat raw beef and chicken.

BTW, meat of animals fed with GMO food tastes disgusting, though esthetically is more appealing.

I always thought that the only meat that was eaten raw in Ethiopia was lamb/goat meat! Never thought it was rather beef.

How much raw meat does one person eat in one sitting?

For example, I can eat 500 grams of any cooked meat in one sitting. Do people eat raw meat in similar quantity that they eat in cooked meat?

Eating one kilo of raw beef in one sitting! Wow!

You're right 2000 Birr is expensive for a meal in a local restaurant in Africa.

Yeah, they shouldn't freeze and defrost meat that's supposed to be eaten raw. Plus, meat that's eaten raw should be the last one to come from animals fed with GMO food.
