This examination thing is untimely and like putting the cart before the horse. Before testing any students, you have to teach them. Testing is a measurement of how well students are taught ( not know). Which realy means the testing is done on the teachers, how well they teach kids.

What has Birr Amtu Sainega done to the teaching process? Has he even opened libraries especially in rular areas? Has he trained teachers on how to effectively and efficiently help kids learn? has he tested teachers first? Or his job is only to administer the matriculation exam?

Just celebrating the failure of students will not guarantee quality. The priority should be how to help students pass not fail. The 800,000 students who will not make it to the universties after this exam should be given alternatives, has he suggested any yet?
If Birr amtu Sainega was smart as some wutaf nekais claim here, he should have convinced Mamo Killo to divert the budget that is wasted on the new science museum to establishing micro libraries in every school and kebele especially in rural places so kids can get access to books. The libraries would benefit the teachers as well.
If Birr Amtu Sainega asks for book donation from the diaspora, I am sure he would get a million books in a week.
Anyways, testing the kids at this time is only setting them up for failure.

You're putting some substance to the front of this issue. The point you raised has significant consequence if too many people are out of school and unemployed. Those with lack of insight for the future and wellbeing of the country and its population are celebrating the exclusion of the 800,000 students from the education system after this exam. Removing 800,000 students is their greatest achievement they expect from Birr Amitu Sainega.

It is obvious that not everyone is a university material. But there is no way to judge ethiopian students in the absence of proper and effective education system. As usual the students from private schools of the richest will pass this exam with flying colors and occupy the scarce spots in the universities while the poor and the not privilged will continue to be hopeless and desperate and eventually join the resistance to either unseat this government or breakup the country. The easiest way to self enrichment is not through education but armed violence in that part of the continent anyways.

Speaking of the 12k students who were barred from the exams would definitely be in the 800,000 group to be removed anyways, so nothing to loose for them. They couldn't compete with those from Addis Ababa private school students. Whether in the Amhara region or Oromia, schools were almost nonexistent for the last two years due to the ongoing civil war and violence in every corner of the country. Students are not made ready for yhis exam.

In any case though, this exam is rigged already. What happens if 500,000 students score 90% on the exam, the government already said there is only space for 200,000? So the 300k of them will be dropped.

The government should prepare students to pass exam not fail and hide its own failure of providing education to all.

____Overall, education being in the line of the crossfire is very unacceptable. These thousands of teenagers, if remained out of school for the next year(s) will certainly create more problem and headache to the country and the stability of the government.
