Brother DefendTheTruth has been posting a lot lately about Eritrea's borders and the 'birth defect' of Eritrea.


When was Eritrea born?


Eritrea was found in 1889 as Colonia Eritrea. Eritrea's borders with neighboring countries are largely defined by a series of colonial treaties. Key treaties shaping the Eritrean-Ethiopian border include the 1900, 1902, and 1908 treaties, each delineating specific sections of the border. The 1900 treaty set the "Mareb-Belesa-Muna" line as the border, while the 1902 treaty covered the western sector, and the 1908 treaty addressed the eastern sector.

Ethiopian borders are also results of colonial treaties. The key treaties include: the 1900, 1902, and 1908 treaties with Italy; The Tripartite Treaty of 1906 signed by Britain, France and Italy; the Rodd Treaty of 1897 with Britain. Every inch of Ethiopian border is a result of colonial treaty and Ethiopia does not have border treaties with the peoples of Kenya, Somalia, Sudan and Djibouti.

Colonial treaties based borders [the birth defect] is not unique to Eritrea and Ethiopia. Every country in Africa has borders based on colonial treaties. "The African continent today has some 83,500 km of political land borders, drawn up in a short quarter of a century (1885-1909). These chancellorial borders were established by Europe on unrecognizable maps and, above all, without prior field survey. The states that participated in drawing these borders were, in order of influence, France (32%) and the United Kingdom (26.8%), that is, almost 60% between them. Next are Germany (8.7%), Belgium (7.6%: the mention of Belgium includes those companies ruled by Leopold II) and Portugal (6.9%), that is, nearly 82% for these 5 states named. Ottoman Turkey (4%) Italy (1.7%) and Spain (1.5%) complete the African border map. The Europeans made maps of the African geographical contours and began to draw lines and write names on them which they called countries."

Therefore, what Defend calls Eritrea's ' birth defect' is every African country's birth defect as every centimeter of African border is a result of agreement with or among colonialists. The OAU (Organization of African Unity), and later the AU (African Union), formally adopted the principle of respecting colonial borders, a concept known as uti possidetis juris. This principle essentially means that the existing colonial boundaries should be respected and considered inviolable upon the achievement of independence. This was intended to prevent conflict and instability in the newly independent African states.

The essence of sovereignty and statehood fundamental concept of post 20th century world politics. America is the worlds most powerful country but it could not erase Cuba's sovereignty and statehood regardless how close it is to American border.

Eritrea is an entity with a birth defect, it can never attain a normalcy hence after. The last over 35 years is only a testimony to this very fact. The old man can spend all he has but will never be able to straighten what was deformed at birth. The birth of Eritrea has to be revisited, reanalyzed and a meaningful solution should be sought.

Only because the time has elapsed over a long period of time can not legitimize the entity that was born with incurable defect.

Having colonial borders and being a colonial founded country is not a birth defect as many countries in the world have have shown that these countries can be peaceful, successful and effective.

Eritrea, as we know it today, we were told to have been born after "successfully having divorced" from Ethiopia and therein lies the biggest defect of all. To get divorced you need also a proper settlement of your previous marriage. Else there will be always a challenge to your entire life of existence after the claimed independence.

Eritrea didn't take the right course of separating itself from the motherland. Therein lies no doubt! Hence a birth defect.

As to Eritrea, it is not a birth defect - it is really a still birth (born dead). Its Western and Arab birth attendants should be ashamed of and disappointed about their failure story. Eritrea is not a Country.

Let's entertain your analogy of divorce for a minute. If, God forbid, you divorce your wife, do you think you get to keep one of her hands, or legs or kidneys, eyes etc? No, you don't! She takes her limbs, hair, brain, face, her everything basically. And you keep your everything. You don't even get to keep a strand of her hair!

What you share is stuff you generated while you were together. What wealth did Ethiopia and Eritrea generate in their 39 years marriage? Nothing material.

I was not misinformed, I knew already that the entity calling itself Eritrea is the only one in the world that takes pride in its history of colonial legacy. You can enjoy it, I am not part of that.
Not only it takes a pride in it, it even bases its existence as an entity on that, a sad story.

With regard to "taking away a limb of your former spouse" Assab was not Eritrean limb, rather developed and run by Ethiopian dire resources, which belonged to all of us Ethiopians, including myself. I have the right to reclaim it, it was taken away from me unduly. What is that not so clear?

BBC commissioned a "History of Africa" was a nine-part BBC World News series explored Africa's history from prehistoric times to the modern era, aiming to provide a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding of the continent's past. The had one full session on the Axumite civilization. The documentary was so centered in Eritrea and Tigray that it seemed that it was a session on hisotry of Axumite civilization of Eritrea and Tigray 101 - EriTigria

But in real terms, the old rusty cranes in Assab port were build by the Italians. The only new infrastructure build in Assab in the past 50 years is the oil refinery. It was later classed as in-efficiently, too old century and became derelict from mid 1990s.

One the of the points I have watched also stated a kingdom that existed way before Axumite's and it had a different name, forget about the possibility of the Axumite Kingdom was reportedly not an exclusive item of today's residents of the provinces of Tigray and Eritrea for a while.

If you can talk about Axumite, then you can't convincingly ignore the kingdom of Kush, the mother of all, unless you are trying to hide something willingly.

This documentary alone and your attempt to come back and cite it as a basis of your ownership of the Axumite Kingdom confirms what I have already said and you didn't try to refute: Eritrea remains in the in the world the only entity which takes pride in its legacy of colonialism and base its legality of existence on the same.

Do you think the Kushite Empire can be hidden? It was amazing that they had numerous older pyramids but people nowadays associate pyramids with Egypt only. The Sudanese people should build tourist centers near the pyramids to introduce the world to the great civilization of their ancestors.

The concurrent civilization on our side was the Kingdom of Da'amat ደኣማት during the 10th to 5th centuries BC. Yeha in North Tigray was their capital and Metera in Southern Eritrea was another major Daamat city. The two towns are only 40km apart.

President Isaias's mother is from the historic town of Yeha. His cousin by his mom's side, Dr Solomon Enquay said that in his interview with BBC.

Taking pride is a subjective opinion; but the whole tread is supposed to confirm the objective fact that all African countries (not only Eritrea or Ethiopia) are the legacy of colonialism and they all base their legality of existence on colonial borders and treaties, basically colonialism. If one is not convinced of this fact after reading this thread, then I have to really improve my communication skills.

The hyperbole of Matthew 7:3-5 was supposed to highlight your hypocrisy in pointing out that Eritrea was a result of colonialism when Ethiopia was a result of colonialism too as every inch of Ethiopian border is a result of colonialism.
