Agaws

Post by Sadacha Macca » 03 Nov 2019, 23:17

''They... the brave, hardy mountaineers of Lasta, the bold horsemen of Agaw Medar: never has Amhara lance driven out their fathers' land the gallant Agaws; they are conquerors, not a conquered race!
Like other Oromo hordes, they came some day from Central Africa: one section of the tribe settled on the lovely plateaus watered by countless streams, a land of milk and honey; others, of a more adventurous spirit, pushed further on, and took possession of a mountainous district, better fitted for a war-loving clan.
I like the Agaws; I like their fair handsome faces, their long silky hair, their well-knit forms, their daring, their courage; and, above all, feel grateful for their king genial welcome, such as only a brave race can give.

Agaw Medar, more favoured by nature, more prosperous even than Wandige and Atchefur, a land of horse as well as cattle, was also more fortunate and never fell Tewodros's displeasure. Tewodros was too [ deleted ] to plunder a land protected by such a valiant race. Here we saw the Oromo cows, with their immense long horns, some 4 feet long, gracefully worn by small, short, well-knitted cattle; here we also met with the wild peaches, sweet limes, and the beautiful Kosso tree, a noble, gracefully stately bunch of flowers, pink-rose or yellowish white, dropping like golden grapes,- a priceless remedy under a lovely form.''

Agaw is not Amara and Amara is not Agaw

Let me explain,

Firstly Amara does not come from Geez. Amharic is a Semetic sister langauge of Ge’ez langauge.

Agaws are Cushitic Language and Amara is from Semetic language.

The Agaws and Amaras have culturally exchanged a lot you can’t even tell the difference between our peoples especially in Lazomelza, Gojjam

Gojjame Amhara like my family are descendants of Bete Amaras Hizb.

Agaws and Amaras are the same! Not in langauge but in culture and traditions. All the Agaws in Amara region are Tewahedo Christians! Just like us. Many Agaws married with Amharas and now claim to be Amhara. Like Sekota in Wollo is called Wag Hemra but the residents of the land 99% say they are Amara

The only difference is our language
no problem bro. i just like to read history especially our history. it's very interesting.
agaw and amara are neighbors and kinsfolk, so they will work it out, i believe.
from what i hear, agaw land is not contiguous, so an agaw state may not work.

Yes Agaw zones are mostly Amara. Agew Awi Zone predominantly in the north the inhabitants claim their descendants of amharas.

Wag hamra like in Sekota almost all residents and inhabitants claim to be descendants of Amharas.

I believe there is no reason for putting 1M Amharas in Agaw Zones that’s foolishness Amharas will not assimilate to Agaw.
