How can you misread the interview so grossly? He is saying that the only way they can secede is if they destroy Ethiopia
Secession, he said, would be difficult as long as Ethiopia remains intact, he didn't say he didn't want to secede, he was giving them the formula for secession, the disintegration of Ethiopia, so what is so pleasant about that?

What he said was Tigrai don't have what it takes to be independent except having some security capabilities meaning, zero chance however, if Jawar & associates succeed in destroying what Dr. Abiy is trying to build by standing in opposition to greater Ethiopia, E. Africa, by opposing transcending cultural values including Amharic teaching side by side with English in every state etc.
So what Daniel is saying is, if the present government fails by default, Tigray would be left on its own, just like, if I remember what he said, Latvia and other Soviet states who became independent without asking for it. That made sense to me.

He also said, you don't secede by wishful thinking, when you don't have what it takes. For me that is very realistic! He was being intellectually honest.

You & I can wish to stay united and fight; that Ethiopians are going to do. Tigrai can't fight to be independent even if somw want to because, it doesn't have what it takes, most will actually fight for a united Ethiopia.
