A troupe of them rented a house to live together in Toronto. They were jobless because they did not want to work manual jobs while they did not have office skills as typists, accountant or management. So, the City of Toronto paid them welfare cheques for their rents, food and transport. Medications were free.

To help them save the transporration fees to the Welfare Office to pick up their weekly cheques, their cheques were delivered to them to their address by commercial express mails.

It is all over the world. They are not productive as far as you give them their tabot, injera and money they do what their lazy bottom does in Ethiopia.In whatever institution they are, they form a herd. They are not inclusive of other ethnics! If you happen to be with them, they manifest their usual behavior back home and dominate you! Don’t believe them when they say Ethiopia. It is the Ethiopia they chew and dance in it they like. That is good for themselves not for anyone. They like living like a pig even in the developed world. They don’t mix with local community although they may have work relations. Eritreans are a lot better in that. I have seen them!!

That is how rogue bandits, shiftas who later self-calimed to be kings were able to recruit them as foot soldiers. They hate to farm; obviosly it's hard work compared to being a soldiers wich has health hazards but it's a matter of chance. You may die as a matter of chance but your family will be taken care. You may be injured as a matter of bad luck but you will be compensated.

They choose to be soldiers knowing the certainty of salary, continuous cash flow but with its obvious chance hazards of death or non-fatal injuries supported by a sentiment of "Whatever will be, will be". Or they may rationalize that their life is in the hands of God.

All this to avoid work. To avoid farming. To avoid trading. carrying goods to sell on their heads and on donkeys' backs. To avoid transporting goods on lorries from Addis to Jimma, to remotest Ethiopian borders such as Moyale, Harar, Jigjiga or Hawasa or Arba Minch as Gurages do.
