Ethiopia’s finance ministry said restructuring talks with some bondholders fell through after they rebuffed its latest proposal for them to take a 12% loss, drawing out a default that dates back to December 2023.
The failure to reach a deal at the May 6 to 27 talks follows several previous rounds of negotiations. Earlier this year, some holders of the $1 billion in notes due 2024 started the process to sue the government for payment.
