He does care because it tarnishes the image he wants to portray to the world about Eritrea. No leader — that includes Isayes — could be happy when its citizens flee their birthplace to begin with.
If I were him, I would refrain from commenting about their defection. If I was compelled to say something “ I don’t care ” is not the sentence I use.
He should care. He should care when every young Eritrean dream is to live anywhere but Eritrea. He should care when he sees more አሮጊትስ and ሽማግሌ in the streets of Asmara than the young. He should care when all his army generals are in their eighties, having no general at all that was not born before 1991.
He should care when the hopes and dreams of Eritreans evaporate to thin air while he was president.
If he does not care, it really means ወዳጃችን has no conscience. We can’t go that far. We could say he has stuck with an old dogma that has been dying. But we have a hard time imagining him as a politician with no conscience.
