Is the Amhara ethnic dominance crafted by kings and EoC over?

Post by Odie » 23 Feb 2026, 16:39

Agew-Kimant ሺናሻ combo “Amhara” that shaped and stole Agew dance and culture, twisted Judaic culture and oppressed the country working for the british and other colonial forces with their guns lost power courtesy of Tigrians and now insulting >84 ethnics specially “Galla and Gurage” to come freely to power while having no attractive ideology how to come to power except toting guns
…………………….
The long-standing, historic dominance of the Amhara elite, established through a succession of emperors and heavily supported by the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EoC) for centuries, is widely considered to have ended with the 1974 revolution and the subsequent political shifts in 1991. However, the legacy of that dominance remains a contentious and defining feature of Ethiopian politics, leading to a new, complex reality in the 21st century.

The Historical Context
Monarchy & Church: From the restoration of the Solomonic dynasty in 1270 until the downfall of Haile Selassie in 1974, all but one of Ethiopia's emperors were of Amhara descent, and Amharic served as the language of the court and state.
Cultural Assimilation: The Amhara culture, often intertwined with the EoC, spread through the expansion of the empire, creating a "Habesha" (Abyssinian) identity that was seen as equivalent to the Ethiopian state.

The Shift: The 1974 revolution dismantled the feudal system, breaking the direct link between the monarchy and Amhara elite control. This was further cemented by the 1991 rise of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), which was dominated by the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF).

Current Status (Post-1991 to 2020s)
Loss of State Monopoly: Since 1991, Amharas have not held the monopoly on political power. In fact, many Amhara elites and activists feel they have been systematically marginalized by subsequent governments.
Emergence of Amhara Nationalism: As a response to being targeted by narratives that associate them with past "oppression," a new form of Amhara ethnic nationalism has emerged. Younger generations are embracing this identity for self-defense, distinct from the older, pan-Ethiopian ("Etiopiyawinet") approach.

Current Conflict: The 2020s have seen intensified violence against Amharas, particularly in regions like Oromia and during the Tigray conflict, with reports of massacres, forced displacement, and structural, violent conflict between Amhara forces (such as Fano) and the federal government.
EoC Influence: While the Church still retains significant cultural, social, and economic influence in Ethiopia, its direct, unquestioned, and exclusive power to legitimize a single ethnic group's political supremacy has been significantly diminished by the rise of ethnic federalism and other religious denominations.

Conclusion
While the systemic, institutionalized domination by Amhara elites supported by a royal-EoC alliance is over, it has been replaced by a "zero-sum" power competition. The Amhara are no longer the exclusive rulers, but rather are navigating a precarious, often violent, and defensive position within a fragmented, multi-ethnic political landscape.

-Demand radical theological changes in EoC
-Remove the tricolor flag
-change the name of the country
-Make 2-3 languages national languages
-Undo all relics of internal colonization
