Post by Naga Tuma » Yesterday, 16:21

A simple question that Odie wouldn’t answer under the thread:

So, I started a new thread to ask the same question.

Odie, can you answer this very simple question?

I don’t know the meaning of ጦሳ or ጦሶ in wolayita.
I don’t think ጦሳ in Gurage has a different meaning from the amharic ጦስ::
አማርኛ: የጦስ በግ meaning a sheep that carries all the curses and sins of a sinner in old testament and left in desert or የሚሳበብበት በግ
ጉራግኛ: ጦሳኛ or ጦሳና means ጦሴ or my curse.
I am not sure if the wolayta one has same meaning!

AI Overview

“The Wolaita word for God is Xoossa (sometimes spelled Tossa or Xoosa).

Xoossa refers to the Supreme Being, the Creator, and is equivalent to the Almighty God.

In traditional Wolaita religion, the concept of the Supreme Being is often linked to the sky, leading to the term Salo-Xoossa (Sky God or God in the sky).

In the Wolaytta Bible translation, Xoossaa is used to refer to God.”

So, the question for you is if you know an equivalent word for ጦሳ in Guraghigna.
