Back in the Middle Ages, the Swiss were a nation of mercenaries, which was their only source of income. Neighboring kingdoms hired the Swiss to fight their wars in exchange for food. The Swiss loved their mercenary service, so much so that they turned it into a thriving business. The old Swiss folk songs had lyrics like "ውጋ ንቀል ወድር!" to romanticize mercenary wars.

In 1515, the French and Venetians arrived to the battlefield with artillery and armored cavalry, and the Swiss brought spears and shields. Sadly, technology had passed them by. The Swiss suffered a devastating defeat that they decided to abandon the mercenary service altogether and adopt a policy of neutrality, which would later prove to be the wisest decision they ever made.

Ethiopia, today, is where the Swiss were in the Middle Ages. It has been fighting mercenary wars since 1952-- the same year that food-aid started flowing into the poor country as a form of payment for its mercenary services. A few people in the upper echelons thrived, while the rest of the population was forced to become mine-sweepers and cannon fodder in someone else's wars. Food production was replaced with long lines of people queuing for food-aid. It became common to hear Ethiopians say they don't care whether it rains in Ethiopia as long as it rains in Iowa. Popular hit songs like "ውጋ ንቀል ወድር!" dominated the Ethiopian Billboard charts for decades. etc...etc.....

Ethiopia is poor because it has always been ruled by mercenaries with poverty mindset.

I am an Eritrean-American and unlike your wrinkled low IQ sob, yes I know both country in and out. My assessment is your country Ethiopia is dirt poor than Eritrea by any measure.

Read, do research and ask before ajewjew out of hate. Qondaf agameee.

^^^^ This is how a man with an exceptionally high IQ explains the root causes of Ethiopia's longstanding struggles, including severe famine and poverty. Thank you for your time, Fiyameta.
