Almost all Gurages with access to FB, Instagram, Telegram, X, Youtube, etc. know this claim of Hadiya activists' intention to despoil Gurage lands. Minority Mareqo, who
account for just 2.1% Gurage and Qebena minority accounting to 1.8% of Gurage also claimed large swaths of Gurage lands as theirs historically.
Hadiy land claims are in the Ennemor region, sporadically and continuously killing Gurages, looting shops, burning homes and schools. Terrorized residents left their farms and their shops in Qosye to save their lives. This gave ample opprtunity to Hadyas from Hadya zone to take over the farms and shops. All this happened while the Gurage Wereda officials, police and federal Command Posts looked the other way.
Qebena does the same in Welkite and Abeshge. The Central Region gave Qebena to administer and levie tax on half of Welkite City. Sporadic but continuous killings, lootings and arsons are common in Welkite.
Out of the 23 Qebena villages, 16 of them are overwhelming Gurage majority, but Gurages do not hold public ofglfice in the wereda administration, their children have to learn Qebena language and majority language of Gurage is not offered in Qebena schools. Gurage Zone officials, police and fed's Command Post do not prosecute these crimes. Rather, recently Gurage Zone and Welkite City gave Qebena Wereda $5million and 2million birrs toward building a hospital, respectively.
The identical story holds true for Mareqo which is a Special Wereda in Mesqan, East Gurage Zone. Mesqan gave Mareqo $25million birr toward building a hospital.
The new revolution has to be to remove PP from power by any means and end the politics of land focused identity.
Your friend's land claim over Gurage emanates from Bahrey's tale that Gurages migrated from Gura Eritrea as soldiers of Amde Seyon to help Hadiya Christians defeat the Muslim Sultanate of Hadya. This false view of history had been debunked by the late professor Lapiso Getahun Delibo who provided chronicles of the warrior king Amde Seyon testifying that he fought Gurages in early 1300. The argument is that if Amde Seyon fought Gurage, Gurages must have been native popluations, not his soldiers.
Martin Bernall, a classicist, author of Black Athena, argued that because these soldiers would have been Christians, Christians would have kept their Christian religion and not tevert back to idol worship, but until recently and to some exten even today, pagan worship such as in Waq is practiced in Gurage. No way Christians would have revert back to pagan gods.
My personal research finds that there existed a Gurage Muslim Sultanate called Arabini in the 1200s. Two Egyptian historians documented the existence of this sultanate which was allied with the Adal Sultanate. They state that Amde Seyon destroyed it in the early 1300s.

TPLF/EPLF made sure hate on Amhara spread on the hearts and minds of everyone in the region. They said, both the Federal and the Shemelese governments referred the land disputes to the recently established GADAS of the area. While the Hadiyas agreed to be mediated by the Oromo institution and live with the ruling, the Guraghies didn’t want that. It means the Guraghies aren’t confident of winning.
We will see dramatic events in the near future.
The Amharas should stay out of this and look after themselves.

The Guraghies priority is attacking the Amharas. In their view, this is the perfect time in destroying the Amharas. They believe the Oromos are their friends. History has a different view about the Guraghies vs Oromos.

Time will tell. I believe, ultimately both the Hadiyas and Guraghies will be part of the Oromo republic.
