No Hostile Abesha Political Force Should be Permitted to Seize the Finfinne Palace Again!

By Fayyis Oromia*

There is no doubt that certain elite groups within the historical Naftegna, Shabiya, and Woyane establishments have worked against Oromo interests. No Oromo person with a clear understanding of history expects positive change from these political elites. However, it is crucial to distinguish between these elite structures and the ordinary Habesha peoples—Amhara, Tigrayan, and Eritrean—who must not be conflated with the political actors who have historically held power. There is a clear difference between the general public of these communities and the hegemonic political elites who have long dominated Ethiopian politics

In particular, Oromo political actors critical of the current government should be cautious not to become unwitting instruments for political groups whose agendas undermine Oromo rights. Priorities must be set wisely: hegemonic elites from the north represent the primary historical adversaries of Oromo self-determination, while the current ruling party’s authoritarian tendencies represent a secondary challenge. Yes, the current ruling structure must be reformed or replaced, but it should be replaced by democratic Oromo leadership—not by new authoritarian Habesha forces.
