There must be steel and aluminum recycling companies as well as manufacturing from out of use cars, trucks, buses, airplanes and military vehicles.
There must also be glass recyclers and manufacturers as well.
Recyclers produce blanks, also calked ingets, of steel or aluminum. They have rectangular shapes, various sizes such as 3ftx4ft x1ft. These are sold to aluminum and steel manufactures. They melt them in ovens and extrude them through molds of diffetent configurations.
Depending on the mold, you can produce different shapes of steel and aluminum.
For example, aluminum window frame or steel door frame. An I-beam or an angle iron. A bridge girder. Or corrugated sheet meta. Or fence wire. Or a flat sheet of steel that would be rolled into a pipe.
Steel industry consumes lots of electricity. In Addis and around the country electricity outages last for 12 hours a day, 3 to 4 times a week, has become the norm.

That is why I posted both manufacturing (creating steel from soil) and rebaring (smelting scrap metal into steel bars) videos.
There two fundamental truths to this matter.
one, a backbone is to a person, as steel is to a modern industrial nation. Without backbone, a person can't have a form, standing ability or power. A nation that does not produce can't be a truly free industrial nation. It is like food. A people who can't grow its own food is a beggar nation. Without our own steel, we can never build our own cars, machines, etc. In short, no true industrialization. Service industries such as tourism, etc are soft industries and can only build a soft country.
The second truth is that those global powers that control the world steel and heavy machinery don't and can't allow us to be steel independent nation. I am sure Abiy and his circle have enough on their plate already in terms of mega projects and mega visions including a sea access and rebuilding of the navy, including natural gas and fertilizer plans.
Even with these barriers in mind, Ethiopia must begin to plan for a steel self-sufficient future. Yes when we say steel, it includes aluminum and plastics and high tech synthetic hard materials.
