Looks like half of the stairs got blocked off mid-construction. I know there are brilliant architects & engineers in Ethiopia except PP mandated to use only white paint and add light fixture on the exterior walls. Anything that a cadre touches is a disaster.

Being a building Architect back home and abroad, building permits should only be issued if it is designed by a certified Architect. It seems like the local authorities are corrupt, they issue permits for designs made by fake MSc & pHd holders for money.

This is signs of a decaying civilization. There is also inspections by local authorities at different stages of construction. Seems to me those who inspect are again corrupt and are there with fake credentials just to make money.

The nation is in a chronic illness.

You can’t get a construction permit in Ethiopia without hiring a licensed architect. However, awful architecture, construction errors & corruptions occur everywhere at every level. I always say that the integrity of architecture and engineering can only be tested through time. Let’s see how the buildings look like in 30years and resist to natural calamities.

I am more curious to know why the staircase was left half finished. Is it supposed to be a style or just a mistake?
