ERITREA ETHIOPIA : The fight for the Red Sea escalates

Post by MINILIK SALSAWI » 21 Nov 2025, 06:50

The fight for the Red Sea escalates
Commercial interests, naval ambitions and shifting alliances are raising the risk of war – as regional states pick sides

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has repeatedly insisted that Ethiopia must secure direct access to the Red Sea. In his October address to parliament, he called it ‘inevitable’, citing legal, historic, geographic and economic grounds. He had raised the issue before becoming prime minister in 2018, and reminded MPs that he re-established Ethiopia’s navy a year later. His arguments range from Ethiopia’s status as the world’s most populous landlocked country, the strategic risks of relying solely on Djibouti, to the economic cost – over US$1.6 billion annually in port fees and related expenses. Abiy said the 1993 agreement that granted Eritrea independence after a 30-year war should not have left Ethiopia landlocked – an anomaly that must now be rectified........ https://www.africa-confidential.com/art ... -escalates

We are actually considering filing a major lawsuit at the International Court of Justice, seeking trillions of dollars in compensation for the losses we Eritreans had suffered under Ethiopia's illegal occupation and annexation of Eritrea from 1952 to 1991.

We are not seeking an immediate payout, as Ethiopia is broke and heavily in debt, but we can arrange a long-term payment plan, like an installment agreement that spreads out the total compensation amount in yearly installments over 100 years, that include yearly interest, late fees, and penalties, which in our estimate comes to about $4 billion dollars a year for the next 100 years.

I must respectfully turn down the amount you suggested; it really ought to be doubled, if not tripled.

The timing is not perfect, it is all about how Abiy Ahmed not about Ethiopia. The fact is, if Eritrea does not surrender to peace by returning the stolen Assab to Ethiopia, there is ZERO doubt war will be the ultimate solution. No earthly power, the West, UN, religious heads, etc. override Ethiopia's natural, legal and moral right to recover Assab, ensure her sovereignty and economic well being of its citizen. Nothing comes first other than Ethiopia's existential matter. Let's speak the fact. Ethiopia with a population of almost 15 African combined cannot be kept in prison simply to satisfy the selfish want of colonial minded states.

Do not beg for it hastily, Ethiopia will stick her feet into your skinny arse  Recall the Badime war where your Sawa rats were mashed like potato in the trench. This time Meles Zenawi is not around to save you.
