Exactly. Amharic was imposed on Ethiopia by the barrel of the gun and its consequence. Not by birth right or by God but by violence. That is why in democratic Ethiopia of equality of nations, a forced language of one tribe over another is no longer acceptable.

Why are you dodging my questions? You said "Exactly", what do you mean? What common language do you expect to have, if not Amharic which over80% of the population use to communicate across the nation for business as well? You want small enclave tribes to have their own language but not have one common language? Are you then getting at tribes create their own nation to preserve their language? Otherwise you can't have a nation Ethiopia that its population unable to communicate with one another because you don't grow as a nation economically, politically, socially, if you can't communicate and understand each other without a common language. Or, you are getting at, to abandon our indigenous language and replace it with colonial English when Ethiopia never got colonized. Or, you want Islamic republic Ethiopia with Arabic language? I believe your desire is Arabic. By the way, Aby said, Ethiopia must learn Arabic when he gave public speech on his inauguration . Use only English as a common language. Common and foreign to all. No one complains. No one takes advantage of another. The other alternative for equality of nations and peace is to have all languages as common and official languages. A good idea but expensive and cumbersome. But we could ask how SA implements it.

Remember boy, before 1965, Ethiopia had English the only official language. Education was conducted in English from Grade 1. English was official language only after Britain kicked out Italy in 1942. From 1936-1941, Ethiopia's officia languages were Arabic and Italian. Before that it was French. France as weapon supplier to Menelick had great impressions on him because of which all his familiy including Haile Sellasie and his mesafints learnt the language. In the 1870s, Shewa royals spoke Italian because of Italy's importance to them in guns supply, agriculture and trade.

Remember, Amharic is not a developed language and very local. No neibhoring countries speak it. Amharic is an economic disadvantage for Ethiopia.
