Dawit, Chair of the Gurage Democratic Front. Resident of Harara. Disappeared in Addis around 2004
Shimeless, member of the SNNPR and Chair of its Economic Planning Desk. Shot and killed in Harar.
Dr.Mohammed, elected in a district of Mesqan, member of KInijit. Killed as he slept in a hotel, Welkite
Name forgot, a Gurage political activist from Kistane, killed point blank in forehead.
Has Ethiopia investigated these political assassinations? Has it arrested the criminals and brought them to trial?
Their families and friends want to know. Gurage wants know justice has been done.

Dana,
I know you are fork tongue but you are right. There is no say true leader for injustice being committed past and present. The country would have be ahead shouldjustice prevailed. Citizens go on their business after 2-3 days mourning rather than demand accountability of many unexplained deaths.

Re: Assassinations of Gurage politicians during EPRDF
Megistu era style EPRP's hit-and-run political assasdinations during eprdf was unheard of other than these assassinations of only Gurage politicians. No Oromo, Amara, Tigrey members of eprdf or opposition pilitical party members were ambushed and killed. But for Gurage victims of murder, It did not matter whether they were members of the EPRDF, KINIJIT or independent.ethiopianunity wrote: ↑06 Nov 2025, 21:06Dana,

Theere is a case to be made these assassinations were also hate crimes, meaning ethnic hatred.
Ordinary citizen, powerless, if they demand justice, they fear they might be arrested or even killed by police or by those who killed those politicians.
The job of providing justice to the people is the legal and constitutional duty of the Ethiopian Attorney General and the Ethiopian Security Services. Also, the media, to ask authorities questions regarding victims of violence, and violations of individual rights of a person.
After I read about these incidents on the website of the EHRC, which was then chaired by Geographer Mesfi.W.mariam, I have not heard any justice provided by Ethiopia on these assassinations.

The only journalist l like is Simeneh Baiferse. He has gone through many persecutions, death threats for asking the right questions of his guests, confronting them! You can tell he wants to go further and ask aggressive questions but because of threat he backs down.
Re: Assassinations of Gurage politicians during EPRDF
Yes, Simeneh Asres, born and raised in Addis, avid soccre player in his youth, majored in theology or something closer to that in university. He is officially a deacon and sings in church choir.
His start in journalism was Gedebano/Gutazer Gurage Wereda, northeast of Welkite. He was hired to ask questions on the implementations of administrative public policies at different levels of the Wereda administration and document them. He said his skills in journalism is due the training he received in the Gurage wereda. He was given free modern house by a rich Gurage businessman.
True to form, true to his training, he only asks questions regarding admin policies and their implementations in federal and regional institutions. I have not heard him asking justice questions.
He loves Berket Simon and Getachew Reda, mainly because they are easier to get for interviews .
