Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman speaks during a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations’ founding, October 27, 2025.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman has called on the United Nations to genuinely represent the rights of all nations, condemning US-Israeli aggression, the Security Council’s bias, and repeated violations of international law while emphasizing its continued faith in the UN’s principles.
Addressing a ceremony on Monday marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations’ founding, Esmaeil Baghaei elaborated that safeguarding international peace and security, alongside developing friendly relations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of people, were defined as the UN’s primary goals.
Baghaei lamented that from its inception, the UN’s principles have been subjected to “violation, arbitrary interpretation, and repeated abuse” by powers unable to free themselves from a “colonial mindset and delusion of superiority.”
He pointed to the current global landscape, marred by endless wars, widespread injustice, and human dignity falling victim to greed and racism, as a consequence.
He also slammed “militant unilateralism” guiding the United States and its allies, which has plunged the world into unprecedented insecurity and chaos.
“Undoubtedly, the United States and some of its allies are the biggest violators of the principles and objectives of the UN Charter,” Baghaei stated.
According to Baghaei, the genocide in the occupied Palestinian territories and the Israeli regime’s military attacks on several countries, terrorist acts, and occupation of sovereign lands, all with the “full support and complicity” of the US and some European governments, created an atmosphere of “absolute impunity.”
The Iranian diplomat also condemned US “provocative actions and continuous threats” against Venezuela, Cuba, Colombia, Nicaragua, Brazil, and other nations in the Caribbean and Latin America, stating they are contrary to international peace and security.

FM Abbas Araghchi urges the UN to identify the US and Israel as ‘aggressors’, as international law, including the UN Charter and ICCPR, prohibits such aggression.
UN’s failure during US-Israeli attack on Iran
Referring to a US-Israeli aggression against Iran in June, which killed at least 1,064 people in the country, including military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians, Baghaei highlighted why Iran must hold the international community and the United Nations accountable.
“Our country was attacked by the Zionist regime and the United States without any justification. In this test, the United Nations failed to perform effectively,” he underlined.
He further noted that the Security Council, “due to US influence, was unable to issue even a brief statement condemning this aggression.”
“This same situation has been observed in other recent events, including the efforts by three European countries to reimpose terminated sanctions on Iran under the pretext of nuclear issues,” he added.
Despite clear biases within the UN Security Council and other bodies, and “unlawful and oppressive resolutions” against Iran, Baghaei said the country has “never torn apart the UN Charter in disrespect of its principles.”
“We have never considered the United Nations an ineffective body,” he said, contrasting Iran’s approach with actions like threatening international court judges or designating the Secretary-General as persona non grata.
“Now is not the time for retreat or inaction. We believe in justice, and we have faith in a United Nations that truly represents the rights of nations,” he highlighted.

A senior adviser to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says Iran, China, and Russia, as three independent powers in Asia, play a significant role in shaping the new world order.
In a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Tehran Cong Peiwu on Monday, Ali Akbar Velayati said historical ties between Iran and China are based on common interests, mutual respect and political independence.
He hailed “strategic and deeply rooted” relations between Tehran and Beijing, saying both sides have the capacities to further expand cooperation in light of regional and global developments.
He commended China's principled positions vis-à-vis Iran, especially regarding the European trio’s so-called snapback mechanism, which triggers a re-imposition of sanctions suspended by the 2015 nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
“Beijing's constructive support [for Iran] in international forums reflects the depth of friendly cooperation and mutual trust between the two countries,” Velayati emphasized.
The Chinese ambassador, for his part, pointed to deep-rooted and valuable relations between his country and Iran and said Beijing has always attached special significance to the expansion of mutual ties with Tehran.
China is ready to further strengthen ties with Iran in different fields, he added.
During the meeting, Velayati and Cong also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including US expansionism and interference in the internal affairs of different countries.
In line with its principled policies, Iran has promoted its relations with Russia and China in recent years despite tough sanctions and restrictions.

Tehran and Beijing have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding ties, with the presidents of both countries leaders vowing to fully implement their 25‑year comprehensive cooperation agreement.
Iran and China signed a landmark 25-year comprehensive strategic partnership agreement in March 2022 in defiance of unilateral sanctions imposed on the two nations by the United States.
The deal officially documents the Iran-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and sets the outlines of cooperation in political, cultural, security, defense, regional, and international domains.
On October 2, Iran and Russia officially started to implement a 20-year Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty, signed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow on January 17, 2025.
The deal signaled a significant step towards deepening bilateral ties between the two countries in various fields.
