The Taifa Stars and the Menas are scrapping over second place behind Morocco (who have already won the group and qualified for the World Cup), though given Eritrea’s withdrawal and the subsequent fewer points on offer, the runners-up in this group will not be ranked high enough to reach the playoffs.

Fingers crossed that Eritrea will cross paths with Nigeria in the next African Cup of Nations qualifier in 2027! That would be a showdown of the ages!

I don’t like this news. This means a dozen or so Eritrean soccer players will not escape from their prison.

Maebel Kiflay is devastated by the news that the Eritrean national soccer team was forced to withdraw from its World Cup qualifier match against Morocco.

Maebel Kiflay
The Eritrean national soccer team exclusively wore ታኬታ while traveling overseas for international matches; however, during training, they were required to utilize ኮንጎ.
