Fano must defend and arm the Gojame tribes of Amhara Agaw and Shinasha(Boru) peoples of Metekel !

Former Prominent Agaw Awi Militia, Tesfaye Reportedly Joins Fano

Tesfaye, a prominent former member of the Agaw Awi militia, who served as a security guard for ex-Governor Engida during the previous Agaw Awi administration, has reportedly joined Fano. He was well known fighter against Fano alongside of ENDF.

After Engida was removed from office, Tesfaye and his colleagues left their militia positions and returned to their hometown of Mesela. When Engida asked Tesfaye to return his weapon (Beren) to the zonal government, Tesfaye refused, citing fears for his safety.

In mid-2024, Tesfaye and his colleagues were arrested in Metekel while attempting to travel to Addis Ababa to live a normal life. At the time of their arrest, they were unarmed, though it remains unclear whether they sold their weapons or if they were confiscated by their captors. Tesfaye and nine other militia members were imprisoned in Dangla, Awi Zone, under the watch of the ENDF (Ethiopian National Defense Forces). They were held alongside Fano members captured during previous operations. During their imprisonment, Tesfaye and his colleagues noticed a stark contrast in treatment. Fano members were treated with respect and hailed as heroes, while the Agaw militia members were subjected to harsh conditions, including being forced to carry stones and dig trenches.

Also, Tesfaye reportedly faced pressure to falsely confess, being handed a prepared statement accusing former Governor Engida of directing them to destabilize the region.

After several weeks, the Fano members were released and rejoined their forces, while Tesfaye and the other Agaw militia members remained imprisoned. One of the guards allegedly hinted at plans to execute the Agaw militia members. The following day, Tesfaye and two of his colleagues managed to escape their cell and fled to Chara, an Agaw-speaking area, before eventually reaching their hometown of Mesela after a two-and-a-half-day journey on bare foot. Reportedly, Tesfaye believes the seven other Agaw prisoners who remained in jail may have been executed.

According to a report, despite repeated calls from Fano members to join them, Tesfaye initially refused, stating that Fano opposed Agaw Regional Statehood, which grants existence of the Agaw people with their culture and language. Some people claim that Fano is making a false promise to them in granting regional state if they want to.

More importantly, recent reports suggest that both the Amhara Strike Forces and the ENDF have been pressuring and searching for Tesfaye and his colleagues. Allegedly, government officials told him, "Either you join Fano openly or surrender to the authorities." As a result, Tesfaye, along with about 30 companions, has allegedly left Mesela and either joined or is on the verge of joining Fano. In return, Fano reportedly provided Tesfaye and his group with two sniper rifles while they were traveling.

Unidentified Agaw opposition members who tried to stop Tesfaye from joining Fano were unsuccessful, as he was not answering their calls. Tesfaye and his colleagues are known for their sharpshooting skills. If this report holds true, the situation in Awi may be nearing a conclusion, with the conflict potentially shifting towards Metekel and Wellega. Historically, any government defeated in Agaw Midir has not survived long in power, including the Italian invaders.

I feel the Ethiopian Federal Government may withdraw from Amhara Region in next 15-months. This war is not just with Fano alone, it is very complex, which involve, religious leaders, wealthy traders, key government officials, party leaders, Command Post officials and military commanders.

In related news, Priest Sintayehu Yenabet, known for releasing a firsthand video documenting the destruction of Ambela and surrounding areas by Fano, was reportedly arrested or abducted in Addis Ababa by government security forces on October 19, 2024. It is unclear whether the security forces involved were from Addis Ababa or the Amhara Regional Government. Sintayehu, a respected figure among the youth, is believed to have been abducted as part of a strategy to frustrate his supporters to join Fano.
