Wedi Medhin Berad skunis belittling the development of Addis Abeba
There is a Tigrinya saying: ኣድጊ ዘይብሉስ በቅሊ ይንዕቅ — A person who doesn’t even own a donkey belittles a mule. In the same way, there are skunis repeating the claim that everything the Galla are doing is merely for show and not sustainable. But for us Eritreans, whose our own country has non existent development, it is wiser to remain silent rather than lecture others about development. In our current condition, we have no moral authority to even use the word “development.” Yet Here are the skunis trying to turn a fallen decoration into a matter of politics........

Wedi Atarit,
What value does the concrete in Addis have for 99.99% Ethiopians! Dont you know that Ethiopia has over 6 million displaced people languishing in IDP camps! That is more than the Eritrean population. But I guess one needs a few grams of the grey matter to understand this!

Deqi,
People criticize development in Addis bc it comes in context of widespread backwardness and lack of basic services in rural areas and is financed by debt or submitting political independence for aid.
During the "good old days" in Asmara people with simple government jobs were driving Volkswagens or Opels while 90% of population was blinded by measles or dying of malaria, drinking dirty water and no access to education. But according to this thinking that is better than the current situation where Asmara is unchanged/dilapidated in many areas but there is a huge improvement in access to basic things for the vast majority of population.
just look at Sudan, Ethiopia and many other places as case studies to see how misguided capital city focused development leads to.
