The Death of Gratitude in the Ethiopian Society

Post by Fiyameta » 01 Aug 2025, 00:24

If the predominantly Eritrean Roha Band never existed, Ethiopian music would likely have remained primitive played mainly by shepherds tending their flock.

ቆጮ was the main dish in Ethiopia before Eritreans introduced a variety of nutritious foods to the country, popular among them እንጀራ፣ አምባሻ ፣ቂጣ ፣ ወጥ..etc.

What did Ethiopians in Eritrea back in 1963 say upon hearing the following speech?

Even today, it doesn’t naturally come to me that Eritreans are culturally different from Ethiopians.

You try hard to present them as different.

We are different in a sense that, while we Eritreans value our hard-won independence and our inherent rights to exercise the principles of self reliance, you Ethiopians are devoid of such conceptual understanding of sovereignty and human dignity that, for the last 70 years you have been consuming food-aid and accumulating debt, which made your country the best client-state in the world aid dollars can buy.

When you were given orders to invade Somalia and Eritrea, for example, you didn't even pause for a second to think that you could be fighting against your own brothers across the border, because addiction to foreign aid is so great that it prohibits you from seeing beyond the tip of your pointy nose. But you always have ready-made excuses to justify your mercenary acts, because that's what chronic liars do!

You don't have to take my word for it. Your late prolific author was so blunt in calling out the societal ills that it had cost him his life. R.I.P.
