90 percent of this football stadium-sized zone’s population have fled the zone due to poverty, lack of development and violent attacks by Galla terrorists, As a result, they are scavenging throughout war-torn Ethiopia.

142 Ethiopian Migrants Are Dead As Boat Capsized In The Shores Of Yemen
August 3, 2025
A boat carrying over 142 Ethiopians reportedly capsized on the coast of Yemen. At least 68 reported dead and 74 others are missing sources reported citing the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The Associated Press cited Abdusattor Esoev, head of the International Organization for Migration in Yemen, to report that the boat carrying 154 Ethiopian migrants on board, sank in the Gulf of Aden off the southern Yemeni province of Abyan.
Those missing are presumed dead. This tragic accident occurred early Sunday.
A search operation is underway. ” many dead bodies were found scattered across a wide area of the shore,” The source reported citing a statement from Abyan security directorate.
Only 12 survivors reported so far. The bodies of 54 migrants were reportedly washed ashore in Khanfar district of Yemen.
The survivors are taken to a hospital morgue in Zinjibar, the provincial capital of Abyan on Yemen’s southern coast, the report added.
The Gulf of Aden and Yemen represent the major migration routes for Ethiopian migrants. The IOM has disclosed that more than 60,000 Ethiopian migrants have arrived in Yemen in 2024. The number for the year 2023 was much higher. More than 97,200 Ethiopians arrived in the country,
While the recurring tragic accident has been linked to human trafficking, conflict in Ethiopia has also been a major factor. The Tigray region of Ethiopia is one of the areas.
Recent reports from local Ethiopian news providers indicated that Youth from the Tigray region of Ethiopia were leaving the region in large numbers in what is reported to be a move to escape from forced recruitment as the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) is allegedly embark on mass mobilization for another round of conflict – presumably against the Federal government.
In March this year, over 180 migrants from Ethiopia were reported missing after the boat they were travelling in capsized on the coast of Yemen. Over 57 of them were women. Later, it was established that most of the migrants were dead.
The Ethiopian government has not yet remarked about the latest tragic accident that claimed the lives of hundreds of Ethiopian migrants.
