Sudan Recalls Ambassador to Kenya With Immediate Effect

Sudan has, for the second time, recalled its ambassador from Kenya protesting Nairobi’s hosting of a meeting to discuss the formation of a parallel government.

Earlier, Sudan had accused Kenya’s presidency ofThe Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reviewed the press statement issued by its Kenyan counterpart, attempting to justify the disgraceful stance of President William Ruto in hosting and promoting the conspiracy to establish a government for the genocidal RSF militia and its affiliates, in violation of Sudan’s sovereignty and national security, and posing a serious threat to regional peace and security, as well as to the relations of good neighborliness among countries in the region.
This represents a dangerous precedent previously unseen in both the region and the continent. This hostile and irresponsible move cannot be justified by referring to the previous hosting of the Machakos negotiations, as these were between the Government of Sudan and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in South Sudan, with the approval of the Government and under the auspices of IGAD and notable international sponsorship.
Conversely, the current meeting in Nairobi is between the terrorist Janjaweed militia and its affiliates, aimed at establishing a parallel government to the legitimate one in Sudan.
This occurs while the terrorist militia continues to commit genocidal acts, ethnic cleansing. and widespread rape. The most recent atrocity was the Qetina massacre, which took place during the Nairobi meetings, claiming the lives of 433 civilians.
The current meetings are merely the culmination of the ongoing support provided by the Kenyan presidency to the terrorist militia in various fields. Nairobi has thus become one of the main centers for the militia’s political, propaganda, financial, and logistical activities. The Kenyan President has also previously accorded a red-carpet reception to the RSF militia leader.
Thus, the Kenyan President is seen by the majority of the Sudanese people as complicit in the war of aggression being waged against them by the terrorist RSF militia and its foreign mercenaries. The Government of Sudan has sought, through diplomatic communication, to change this stance without success.
It is unfortunate that the Kenyan President has placed his personal and commercial interests with the militia’s regional sponsors and the militia’s leadership above the historical relations between the two brotherly countries, the leadership requirements, Kenya’s genuine interests, and the imperatives of regional peace and security, thereby disregarding international and regional agreements.
Sudan expresses its appreciation to the sisterly countries that have rejected any threats to Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and legitimate government.
Sudan also values the United Nations Secretary-General’s statement against the declaration of a parallel government in Sudan. Sudan reiterates its demand for the Kenyan presidency to reverse this dangerous course of action, which threatens peace and security in the region and encourages terrorism, genocide, and horrific human rights violations.
Sudan has already begun taking measures to safeguard its national security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

Sudan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry expressed regret on Tuesday evening over Kenya’s decision to host the event, stating that it contradicted Kenya’s highest-level commitments not to allow hostile activities against Sudan on its territory.
The ministry highlighted that the event’s stated goal was to establish a parallel government in part of Sudanese territory.
Additionally, it condemned the move as a declaration of hostility against the Sudanese people, accusing Kenya of encouraging the division of African countries, violating their sovereignty, interfering in their internal affairs, and contravening the UN Charter, the African Union Constitutive Act, and international norms.
Later in a statement dated Wednesday, February 19, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi https://thekenyatimes.com/kenya/people/ ... -mudavadi/ indicated that a return to civilian rule must be prioritized, but without compromising national security.
The statement indicated that in January 2024, parties to the Sudanese conflict gathered in a neighbouring country to discuss an inclusive path forward.
Additionally, Sudan’s RSF and civilian groups chose Nairobi as the venue to present their roadmap for peace, reinforcing Kenya’s credibility as a mediator.
This marks the second diplomatic withdrawal in just over a year, following the January 2024 recall after President William Ruto hosted RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo in Nairobi.
Sudan’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Ali Al-Sadiq, emphasized the importance of the move, stating that
the consultation with their ambassador will cover all possibilities for the outcome of Sudan’s relations with Kenya.
