Did Dr. Abiy Ahmed Disappoint Amara Elites, who Wanted to Use him as They Did to Mengistu H/Mariam?
It is finally good to observe the quarrelling of Dr. Abiy’s regime of Hybrids and Amara elites of the Habesha camp. As Dr. Léncô Latà once said, “when Amara elites support me, I ask myself: did I commit something wrong and on the contrary, when they oppose me, I know that I am doing right!”. When we observe the conflict between the Habesha Amara elites and the Hybrid Prosperitans, I think Dr. Abiy is trying to comeback to Oromo block, be it tactically or being convinced. He is now comprehending that, his fate is like the proverbial dog, who eats from two houses and been eaten by hyaena during its pendeling move between the two homes. Dr. Abiy trying to satisfy the two diametrically opposite camps surely will cost him his life and power. He had support of almost all Amara elites and Oromo elites at the beginning, of course both camps hoping that he will serve their respective interest. As time goes, he disappointed both blocs and lost significant support from both sides. He now has to choose from the two and it seems he is trying to favour the Oromo camp, of course which disappoints his Amara supporters. If he is serious about this choice, he is taking right step in the right direction. I would like to advise him to move further and promote Afaan Oromo to the primary language of the federation, replacing Amarigna, so that institutions like the palace, parliament, cabinet, court, military and security can use Afàn Oromo as soon as possible. By doing this, he surely can be reconciled with the Oromo and the attempt of Amara elites to use him as they did to Mengistu H/Mariam shall finally come to an end.

Re: Did Dr. Abiy Ahmed Disappoint Amara Elites, who Wanted to Use him as They Did to Mengistu H/Mariam?
I thought that histroy repeats itself and Amhara elites are lucky as they always try to find an Oromo loyal to them in order to beat genuine Oromo nationalists. Menelik (Oromo himself) betrayed Gobana, Haile sillassie persecuted Iyasu, Mengistu killed Haile Fida and now Abiy imprisoned Jawar and co. No Amara force defeated the Oromo directly till now, but they always got instrumental Oromo, who are revering Amaranet, instead of respecting their own Oromummà. The Oromo lost during the revolution 1974, despite our lion’s share to the change, because of Mengistu (Oromo physically, but maritally and mentally Hybrid), who persecuted genuine Oromo nationalists. Of course, the coward and [ deleted ] Amara elites rallied behind him to destroy every thing Oromo. Similarly, they now tried to support and use Dr. Abiy Ahmed (triple Hybrid) to undermine Oromummà. Again, the Oromo had lion’s share to bring this recent change, but we again lost, thanks to Oromo prosperitans led by Dr. Abiy, who are determined to keep the ongoing domination of Amaranet and undermine Oromummà. As usual, the mischievious Amara elites are tried to rally behind Dr. Abiy in order to destroy Oromummà and Tegarunet. That is why they waged war against the OLF and TPLF. They already humiliated Tegaru elites and now on the way to do the same to Oromo fighters like Jaal Marrô Dirriba. The fool Abiy Ahmed was almost ready to be used and thrown by such [ deleted ] Amara elites. Now, he seems to wake up!
All nations in Ethiopia fought against Naftagna system dominated by Amaranet and Amaringa. The present Neo-naftagna Hybrids trying to keep this system of domination is the ruling regime of Abiy Ahmed’s EPP. The main opposition to this oppressive system is now coming from the OLF (including all Oromo organizations with mindset of bilisummà/freedom), TPLF and forces of other oppressef nations and nationalities. Freedom struggle against the Neo-Naftagna seems to be the most difficult because of the very polarizing personality of Abiy Ahmed. This deceptive dictator is effective in wearing mask of democrats, liberators and sprituals, so that certain part of genuine freedom fighters could support him. Especially, he could effectively divide and polarize Oromo nationalists. That is why the whole Oromo could not protest in unison as we did against the monarchy, Derg and Woyane. It will take us certain time till the well decieved freedom fighters can figure out and know that Abiy Ahmed is simply the 21st century Menelik working systematically against right of nations to self-determination. It also took me 2 years to uncover his [ deleted ] maneuver.
Otherwise, it is good news, the whole Oromo are slowly waking up and starting to figure out that they are suffering under the repressive regime of the EPP rule. They have started to talk about a liberation struggle from this Neo-Naftagna rule instead of rehashing about the possible democratization of the present empire, which is neither federal nor democratic as the regime tries to make us believe. It seems that they have now started to understand the fact that democratization of the empire is a pipe dream, which was already assessed and told by the OLF since 1992. Till now, they had been deceived repeatedly,
Additionally, I don’t need to be politically correct and name the so called “multinational” parties, which are now main s upporters of the Neo-naftagnas Naftagna, as “pan-Ethiopianists.” To me, they are Amara parties as long as they pursue political interests of Amara elites; such interests including job of keeping Ethiopia with Amarinya as only federal language, into which all nations in the empire are still melting. One report I once heard on SBO (OLF radio program) revealed the fact that Oromo students still require competency in Amarinya to get jobs, specially in federal structure. This shows how Amarization is still promoted, because of which Amara elites prefer to call their parties as “Ethiopian” instead of “Amara.” Individuals from other nations, who are part of such parties, are those who are both linguistically and mentally Amaranized. So, no need of confusion here; let’s Oromo be clear on this issue and seek an alliance with those forces against EPP regime, including Tegaru forces. Of course, we need to be very careful for it is very easy to be infiltrated by EPP agents in the “multinational” parties, in contrast to the ho*mogeneous national parties. That is why I do call for caution whenever we try to work with opposition forces, in which EPP agents are also active. The paralysis of Medrek, which failed to call for reasonable civil disobedience and public uprising after the riggings of past “elections,” should teach us something.
I once wrote an opinion after observing Amaras’ start of colonization rhetoric: “Oromians: Can We Welcome Amara Nation to Club of Colonized Nations in the Horn?” A few years ago, Dr. Gregory Stanton spoke to his mostly Amara audience in Washington DC about the current internal colonization under Tigrean elites. Then a short similar opinion came from Amara liberation camp regarding this colonization. Such move by Amara liberation camp is encouraging since TPLF’s main lottery has been the discord between the two liberation camps (i.e. Amara and Oromo liberation camps). As far as the Oromo are concerned, no question that all nations in the empire are now under colonial rule of EPP, no more rule of TPLF; that is why our struggle is a fight for freedom from this Neo-Naftagna.
But Oromo elites have believed till now that the West is genuinely interested in democratization of the empire, so that they have succumbed to pressure of diplomats from the West. Fact on the ground is that neither EPP nor their Western handlers are interested for democracy. The West knows very well that they can not get better servant than EPP to serve their influence and interest in the region. Any democratically elected leader, with public support of their own country, is proud enough not to do bidding of the West; only petty dictators like EPP, with no mass support in their own country, can be marionette of the West at cost of their own nations. The West only checks whether the dictator is “their dictator” or not; they oppose those who are not theirs like Mugabe of Zimbabwe, but dine and wine with “their dictators,” who do serve their interest. So, expecting any genuine support from Western governments for any sort of democratization in Africa is just fooling ourselves.
In this short opinion piece, I would like to concentrate on possible role Tegaru bloc and Oromo camp can do to get rid of EPP. These two nations will surely be future power players of the Horn region; therefore, they should prepare themselves for this role starting from now. They can be two pillars of future union of the Horn, just like France and Germany are now for the European Union. Liberation forces of other nations in the empire do support either Amhara liberation camp, which wants to forge future union in a form of U.S.A. (a region-based federation with all nations possibly melting into Amarinya speakers) or Oromo liberation camp, which does have European Union as a model for the future union.
But now these two camps must leave this decision of choosing either EU model or U.S.A. model for the public after getting rid of EPP; and they should coordinate their struggles by trying to form an all-inclusive alliance by default or by design, which can be considered as an inclusive Ethiopian liberation force. The recent move towards such an alliance made the EPP very nervous, so that it has already dispatched its cadres in order to do its dividing and polarizing activity. The cadres sing on Oromo forums about an importance of unconditional independent Oromia and curse any possible Tegaru-Oromo alliance; at the same time, they do cry in Tegaru forums for unconditionally integrated Ethiopia and denounce any sort of cooperation between Tegaru organizations and the OLF; of course, their only goal is to hinder the possible all-inclusive alliance against EPP from happening.
This division and polarization move of EPP also goes to the extent of sowing discord inside both camps based on region, party and religion. Unfortunately, some fools from both camps did fall into this trap, and they do now entertain such dividing and polarizing orgy of EPP cadres. To counteract such move of our oppressors, it is not bad if OLF leaders and activists try to forge first an intra-Oromo solid unity as well as secondarily foster the necessary anti-EPP alliance with all liberation forces, including Tegaru movements.
To make such an alliance become a reality, Tegaru forces need to wake up from their nostalgia and look forward. Their position till the year 2018 in reclaiming a Woyane-style Ethiopia is over, never to come ba k again. The least common denominator to be accepted by all stakeholders in the empire may be a theoretical true ethnic federation. But Tegaru forces should think beyond ethnic federation, just like the Oromo, Sidama, Ogadeni and others are now doing, i.e. they have to fight for liberation of Tigrai, instead of still dreaming to rule over the whole country.
When they think in terms of Tegaruland as an independent part of the future possible regional union or continental union, then they will be on the same page with the Oromo, Ogadeni and other liberation forces so that fostering an Ethiopian liberation force in form of an all-inclusive alliance is not as such difficult. We like it or not, take it only 1 year or as long as 100 years, all nations in the region will have our both national independence and regional union in form of “union of free peoples.” That is why I do wish Tegaru forces to give up their nostalgic illusion and start to think, talk and walk in a future-oriented mindset. The already-conscious and farsighted Oromo nationalists can take responsibility to liberate not only Oromo people, but also others in the region, including those with nostalgia.
To take over this leading function, Oromo polity must stop foolish quarrel in the endless discussion on an issue: “union vs independence.” Both options are still entertained for they are not exclusive to each other, but final decision will be made by Oromo public verdict. That is why I do say autonomous Oromia within an Ethiopian union can be the common ground to build an alliance of Tegaru and Oromo forces against EPP. I must repeat this again and again that Oromia’s autonomy within Ethiopian union is only a transitional arrangement leading us to the future public verdict, where Oromo mass will choose between “Oromia within union” and “Oromia without union” as a lasting solution. This decision must be left for Oromo public as an exercise to self-determination after getting rid of EPP; it should not be predetermined now by Oromo polity.
As far as I am concerned, the following is reality of political development in the empire:
– Ezema’s unitary Ethiopia is obsolete and belongs to the past;
– EPP’s Ethiopia is evil and temporary;
– Ethiopian union (true ethno-federation) is a transitional solution;
– free Oromia is indispensable and a must;
– union of free peoples is beneficial and lasting solution!
This is a summary of my hitherto position. So, to take autonomous Oromia within union as a temporary goal of the possible all inclusive alliance against EPP doesn’t necessarily mean opposing the future Oromo public decision for an independent state withiout union. I know this topic of discussion will never end till we settle it per public verdict in the future. Till then, we can express our only individual or organizational positions, but we can not decide for Oromo people.
Taking this possible political development in the empire, true Ethiopian federation is only a temporary solution for the fact that Oromo and other nations will demand more and will decide for their independence. Unless otherwise, the federation is sustained by hegemony of one nation over others as it is now under EPP, which can be replaced by that of Tegaru, Oromo or other elites to rule over the “federation.” To hinder the taking over by Tegaru and Oromo elites, TPLF once Putinized (following Putin’s model) its rule and to keep Tigrean colony in the future by instrumentalizing Haile-Mariam Desalegn as Medvedev of Ethiopia. So, practically there can never be genuinely true ethnic federation as a lasting solution; that is why independence of Oromia is indispensable and a must; this can be followed by voluntary union of free peoples, to which direction even Africa seems to move.
The move of African Union in transforming the commission to an authority with a final goal of forming African federation shows the importance of “union of free peoples,” be it regionally or continentally. One AU summit themed “Africa’s Shared Values: Implementation of Pan-African Governance Architecture,” showed direction of political move in Africa. It is in such federated Africa that both free Tigrai and free Oromia can play a stabilizing. It seems that in the future, some new independent nations like South Sudan, Oromia, Ogadenia, Hausaland, etc. as well as some united or merged regions like EAC (East African Community) will emerge, but all being united under the future federated African Union Government (African Union Authority).
As education and enlightenment of African peoples and nations is going on, the better will be their engagement for their human and national rights, so that an emergence of new states by dismantling the evil colonial borders, which till now have either divided nations or lumped many of them together, will take place. Emergence of new states and redrawing of borders will happen, be it in a near or far future. That is why liberation struggles of nations in the future will not be like liberation struggles in the 20th century (only rural guerrilla liberating territories village by village). For that to take place, there is no more Cold War to get the necessary support. What is now important is combination of all methods, except using terror, as a means of struggle. This all-inclusive method can include civil disobedience, public uprisings and armed struggles (both rural and urban guerrilla). So both liberation groups (Tegaru bloc and Oromo camp) in the present empire should learn to think inclusive and be pragmatic. The best pragmatic approach is that both should first try to unite and consolidate their respective camps before or in parallel to formation of an inclusive alliance. After consolidating their respective camps, the two can build a very effective and efficient alliance against the EPP.
The development in Tegaru camp is encouraging as we could observe their move from a position of being archenemy against the OLF to being so friendly; I commend them for coming to this level. We may remember what they thought and talked about OLF previously, now they are directly or indirectly accepting and respecting Oromo’s just cause and are supporting Oromo struggle. OLF surely will be major part of an inclusive alliance to liberate not only Oromo people, but also other oppressed nations, including the currently oppressed Tegaru. OLF remains to be nightmare for EPP; OLF should be able to coordinate all liberation/resistance movements in the empire against EPP’s tyranny. Hopefully, both the ongoing unity among Oromo liberation forces and the planned inclusive alliance, will be formed, consolidated and both shall prevail.
Last but not least, I would like to repeat that both camps should take heed of the dividing and polarizing EPP infiltrators, who seem to be very busy in both cyberworld and community life. It is simple to identify them: liberation forces are integrationists, who do try to unite all forces against the evil regime, whereas EPP cadres do the opposite, i.e. divide and polarize by sowing discord between parties, ethnies and religions. As far as I am concerned, our present primary enemy is the ruling EPP, under which also the Tegaru are suffering. We need to concentrate on fighting this powerful enemy, of course, without being careless about certain nostalgic position of few backward elites in Tegaru national camp. At the moment, the inclusive cooperation of Tegaru and Oromo against the Neo-Naftagnas is mandatory, that is why an alliance of OLF and TPLF against EPP is timely. May Waaqa help us distinguish between the primary and secondary enemies of Oromo nation based on the always changing situation, time and space, i.e. may He help us in our priority setting!
