UAE becomes Africa’s biggest investor amid rights concern

Activists alarmed at emirati companies’ poor record on labour rights and fear projects may fail to address environmental concerns

The United Arab Emirates has become the largest backer of new business projects in Africa, raising hopes of a rush of much-needed money for green energy, but also concerns that the investments could compromise the rights of workers and environmental protections.

Between 2019 and 2023, Emirati companies announced $110bn (£88bn) of projects, $72bn of them in renewable energy, according to FT Locations, a data company owned by the Financial Times.

The UAE is not just investment it is a gang or mafia work.
First, they make countries fight each other. Second they make rivals within same country fight and cause failed state like in Sudan and Somalia.
The hidden exploitation is mineral smuggling from DRC to Zimbabwe to Ethiopia-Tigray and Oromia. Huge gold smuggling chain. TPLF is infighting due to this. The Oromo internal war is due to who controls what. Gold and coffeee contraband. We remember news. The generals including Abebaw are involved in this blood money laundering.
When Takele Uma was minester of natural resources, this was a big news.
We also remember the blood diamonds of west africa fueling civil war. Perhaps except chains that a little bit cared to build infrastructure in exchange, the rest of the modern colonizers of Afric simply want easy money through smuggling. DRC is one of the biggest pouched countries pushed into perpetual infighting through the process.

C'mon! There's no scramble for Africa, let's just keep bickering between us and fight one another.

Somaliman,
I don’t know if somalia has people’s leaders in office. Believe me, the main problem in africa is leadership.
We don’t have properly elected people in office. Also we may not be good citizens to surrender to law as well as apply our rights specially to stop politicians when they sway and force them or elect them out. Many leaders in office in Africa are so called freedom fighters, ethnic fascists, juntas, life time dictators and swindlers. When you have people like that in power, well they siphon the resources to overseas shadow banks. They engage in mafia undercover work. They enrich their extended families. They have no vision to lead or develop a country because they were not capable person to begin with. So they go, a new one comes you start over and on and on!
No body would like Africans to have good governance or leaders. Donor money, borrowed money goes down the drain or into dictators pocket. Many of such leaders are reinforced to come to power by external forces or external exploiters.
Means the problem has double source; us as well as external enablers.

No external source or force invests inGod governance in Africa. It is as simple as that.
China policy: “Non interference”

West: usually want “yes man” without caring for the rest. The problem of the poor is upto be solved by donations!
