Look at how service improved with ethio telecom the moment it was ntroduced kicking and screaming to its new sibling by the name of safricom. Ethiotelecom has shown more innovation and service improvement in the last 5 years than it had in the previous 20.
Replicate this with the banks. Give me more...

for those who don't know, ethiopian banks and insurance companies have had it so bliss for the past 30 years, they dole out insane dividiend after dividend year on year, awash bank, largest private bank routinely dishes out insane 40% these last few years . Its great for shareholders but bad news for entrepreneurs who rely on innovation and competition in the banking sector to access cheap loans. Now once awash bank hears that Kenyan banks, Asean countries, South African banks are sniffing for prime Real Estate in addis for their bank HQ, awash, zemen, et al will be in a race to lower their rates...40% dividends will be history. Great news for Ethiopians in business both at home and the diaspora.
If liberalising continues on track, stock exchange already reopened after a 50 year haitus, soon mortgage products will be available, before we know it land will be privatised, and oh the airline, another sector that abuses its monopoly leverage to charge exorbitant prices. Privatise it already.
