1. I really have not heard of an Oromo assigned by Menelik bossing Enemor. In my age Enemor took care of its issues. I did not hear anything like that from old people
mouth. It is now Gurage is annexed by Oromuma. Specially North East.
Any assigned administrator coming to 7 bet or Enomor prior to the filthy woyane was assumed to be Ethiopian and no body cared about his ethnicity. Mostly a Gurage would be assigned.There used to be a place called ስፈር I guess initially started by menelik or Hailesselasse where national police and law branch would be located. Otherwise issues were completed by local representative-often extension of the national system. ስፈር become obsolete during Derg.

If an oromo ruled the region, it should have been an Ethiopian Oromo not Oromuma or Ethnic barbarian. Whoever it was, it was supposed to respond to central gov.

As I always say religion should be different from politics specially in a heterogenous society. You can not shove a religion in to someone’s mouth without permission. As far as christianity concerned, the center is christ but many differences exist in number of books canonized, personhood of Jesus and practice pattern. makers stayed (የስፈሩበት). During those
days, if a legal or other issue was not settled by authorities at village level-በጭቃ ሹሞች), it will go to ስፈር (kind of rural city). If not finished there it will go to Addis.In that place you would expect some law reinforcers not necessarly of Gurage ethnicity. Derg removed that when arrangment changed. Many legal cases won’t go there any way!

Alternative for Gurage Ethiopianists is Prosperity Party. Not entirely happy with it as itself just emerged from TPLF controlled EPRDF, it has a space to accommodate Ethiopianists which they hope this space will grow as TPLF and OLF, and now Fano are more and more, slowly and consistently defeated and put out of action. I think Berhanu Nega is with Abiy on this hope.

In Toronto, around 2012, when he came to address the Ethiopian Community, some group organized a huge protest and shout at him while speaking. He had to stop speaking.

This is to force Gurage Ethiopianists to support Amara nationalism. They wouldn't. For the same reasons Gurage opposed TPLF and OLF. You just can't convince a Gurage the notion of a harmonious pluralist and equal Ethiopia is second to ethnic nationalism.

I know Gunchirye. During Derg time, it was just a kind of town or a small business town. It had middle school only. During TPLF time I heard it grew to Woreda with high school.
Before even Gunchirye, there used to be a place called ስፈር I believe in kind of mountain top. I haven’t seen it personally as I was not arround during Haileselassie time. That place was used by his people for law reinforcement as I explained.

I know what happened to Dr Birhanu in Amhara kilil. People like him may not care about the form Ethiopia takes as far as the scaffolding of the country remains. Like prof Messay. In other words as far as the country does not disintegrate. I think that may be the perception of other elites from other ethnics working with Abiy too. There is this assumption the Amhara Nationalists inside Fano will work for secession of Amhara region and effective disintegration of the country which is what shabeans happen to fan too covertly or overtly (Eritrea-Amhara unification grandiosity Horus may have his suspicion?). Personally I doubt secession is at the best interest of Amhara or any other Ethnic in the country. The best may have to be how to maintain a democratic country with freedom for regional democratic states with amendment or change of the constitution. But anything is possible. Because of the secession mantra, many elites may still think Abiy is their hero but Abiy is OLF boy with hate on other ethnics specially Northerners, Oromo first idea and ethnofascist flipflopoer that cannot be trusted.
Moreover Birhanu is not a Gurage. He may have cultural attachment due to his family but he is Zero Gurage mentality and am not surprised as he never grew up in the tradition or among gurage. He told Gurage that he is an Ethiopian does not have weakness for them. So he is a blemish for Gurage because some wrongly associate him with Gurage.

That makes sense in its crude form (እንደወረደ) as Gurage did not submit easily to Menelik. Many other ethnics such as woliyta and harare resisted. All that was put to rest in the name of nation building specially as Derg removed a lot of feudal abuse of poor residents. Gurage as part of the old empire of abyssinia with knowledge of centralized adminstration later easily diffused into the Ethiopian statehood risking loss of its identity and unity. The end result became what you have now. As the region is very close to the center, it simply morphed into the Ethiopian nationality by losing identity fully or to some extent under the influence of the central gov. That was true to some Oromo tribes in northern showa although they are regressing now back to their Oromo traditions.
Overall, whatever has happened may be it was a necessary evil to build the nation, Ethiopia, which was the greater good. I don’t want to live in that. Everybody got something out of that. As they say, there is no nation built without some sort of mistake or evil. That was acceptable for that time. The most inhumane thing is to undo now in violence a nation built in hard work and regress back to the primitive tribal/ethnic adminstration. That happened only in Ethiopia because subhuman people grabbed gun succeeded to rise to power. That is what happened during TPLF rule and Oromo fascism now.
Gurage need to unify and defend itself against local atrocities of the likes that happened recently and stand for its righ at the national level. For me, I still don’t give up the democratized non ethnically federated Ethiopia rising in peace and talking more about development, modernity, advances in technology, change in the livelihood of its people than bickering in Ethnic mud.
In this process the Eritrean role has to be taken seriously as they only serve as a terror crevice or spot than the pacification of the region. The current eritrean state that has been supporting all liberation wars from Ogaden, Oromo to tigray in Ethiopia has to be changed with a peaceful coexisting one not a threat to Ethiopia. This should be accomplished covertly or overtly if it is a must. Or shabea Eritrea should be fenced/walled off Ethiopia untill Eritreans complete their own homework. The bigger Ethiopia should dectate the region not failed states somalia, eritrea or sudan. We can not continue like this as that are extremely hostile to Ethiopians. Shabeans are too inflated too.
