To date, Ethiopia is using Berbera port for 3% of its trade, the rest being through Djibouti port. This percentage is expected to go up and Somalia has no objection to this. Road constructions between Berbera and Ethiopia are ongoing, and once these are completed and customs policies are put in place, Ethiopia could eventually increase its use of Berbera port, and this would contribute to the economy of the breakaway region.
