By the way Haile Selassie thought France was a Monarchy so he believed France was ruled by kings / emperors instead of democratically elected prime ministers/ not knowing about the existence of democracy led him to be confused about the way France was operating itself

The feudal lord couldn't believe that European leaders, in command of the most powerful armies in the world, would allow a peaceful transfer of power and choose to live in peace with all their neighbors. In his warped mind, if you have an army and you don't wage wars, you are wasting money. But wasting humans was OK for him. What an embarrassment! The sad thing is that the same mentality still exists in Ethiopia today.
