Horus, I am outside of Ethiopia. I have difficulty remembering Ethiopian calendar. I am not quite a holiday guy. Can you remind me when gurage meskal would be at least I will take the risk of eating gurage kitfo for one day?
And post something related to meskal.
I heard Abiy Ahmed started playing Oromos to travel and go to Ethiopia to worship Erecha-a pagan holiday which christian’s never should participate in. Of course people have the right to do their wish as far as it does not encroach on others right; it is a choice at own risk ( Personally, bs of my christian religion I don’t recommend participation in any pagan practice of any ethnic). Power hungry politicians will promote any evil to play people and stay in power.

Odie,

26th (this is the only day that each child is served kifto etc with his/her own ጣባ ፤ it is truly a special day for kids. It is exactly like Christmas morning in the west!!)
Sept. 27th

Thanks for the explanation. When I was a child there, I remember mostly the women's Meskel and the main one. The women meskal has gomen Kitfo and we used to anticipate it. The big one is obvious, especially the DEMERA (we used to call it-MUKIR). I will take Sept 27 to remember the date and eat (in traditional sense it is not eating it should be drinking kitfo  ) one day kitfo.

Zemo (brother) Odie,
I told you that you and I spoke the same language in some distant past. Demera in Kistane Guragegna is called Mijir (or Meger) ምጅር! You call it Mukir! It is exactly the same! amazing. I call Gurages - The Mesqel people. The Meskan Gurage - literally means mesqel Gurage! Some of us call it Mesqel, Mesqer, & Mesqen is also accurate. I wonder if Mukir has a different name in other Sebat Bet languages? By the way, our word for 'brother' is 'Zemi' ዘሚ and zemo is የዘሚ ቁልምጫ ነው።

Really Interesting!
mukir and ምጅር close
Again: Zemo= we say it ኣስሞ(Esemo)
Meskel= we say መስቀር

By the way kistane ጉራጊኛ ዘፈኖች are ጉራጌ prototype songs. The songs start some where in gurage region, typically kistane and flow all over gurage.
Examples:
የወራይ ስመሌ(very poplar in countryside)
ላሌ የወላልያ (very easy common play in country side)
Today too many varieties

Thanks

I hope I will have the opportunity to visit your region immerse myself in this sister language! Yes, Zemo & Esemo are same words. Well, this is why Gurage is one people. Now, with knowledge and literacy all of our communities will build a unified culture. The newly formed association of Gurage artists are producing multi-dialect songs and doing joint concerts. Very encouraging developments. By the way right now, compared to its population size, no other ethnic group has as many musicians as Gurage ethnic group. I have stopped counting!

The idea of separation of Church and State that I have heard about is really simple.

The head of ቃሉ institution doesn’t get involved in choosing the head of ገዳ institution or አባ ገዳ። After አባ ገዳ is elected, the chief ቃሉ is invited and anoints. That is what is called ሙደ።

The idea is that simple.

If these were to be applied in the US, the Chief Priest or Cardinal of the US doesn’t elect the President of the US. The elected President would be anointed by the Chief Priest or Cardinal instead of taking oath of office from the Chief Justice of the US.

As far as I know, it has no policy about educating anyone about anything.

These simple ideas are well known by the keepers of the people who established them in the first place.

Back in 1997, I heard a representative of a Native American community in Colorado speak at a conference for students that America’s founding fathers learned about the process of peaceful transfer of power from how it used to be done by Native Americans. From what I remember, she said the process of handing power to the next elected leader is performed by a woman and that a statue commemorating it is at the Capitol in Washington, DC.

I just googled about what I heard at that event. My best recollection about it suggests that the speaker was referring to what is now called The Statue of Freedom that is on top of the Capitol.

May be those who are not familiar with the idea of peaceful transfer of power would benefit by learning about it. May be Donald Trump would have benefited from paying a visit to a Native American community before going to his January 6th, 2020, rally in Washington, DC.
