Some people believe ethnic struggle like Fano should eventually grow to embrace national aspiration. I see contradiction within. There is no precedent that confirmed that to have happened. If a “struggle” starts having the lowest denominator as its guiding principle , that it will descend to its worst form most likely is a given.
Take example the TPLF struggle. The Tigreans by comparison are more [deleted] than the Amharas. They live compared to Amharas in close proximity to each other. They are not dispersed among four provinces like the Amharas.
But even the Tigreans have to face undeniable fact : they too have differences. The Northern and Southern Tigray infighting that has been exemplified by power struggle between Getachew and Debretsion somehow was buried for half a century.
When TPLF was in power the division might not reveal itself is not surprising. Every Tigrean was awarded a “ምርጥ ዘር” ሽልማት, so the great majority was relatively content.
No matter how much the ER Fano fans wish it to be, the movement will not unite under any leadership because the Amharas want and desire is not universal.
For the last more than three decades we have been brainwashed to believe all Oromos think alike, all Tigres think alike, and all Amharas think alike. That is fallacy.
The ethnic politicians who spread the lie might somehow think alike, but the people they believe to speak in their behalf are not.
The Amharas have a legitimate grievances that should be addressed.
The ethnic politics that has mushroomed a half century ago singled them out as a pariah.
They have lived without genuine representation in a country that modeled its politics with tribal representation.
The way to address that issue is not to make the lives of Amharas to be more miserable than it had been.
With the current Ethiopian politics to believe that Fano will unite under one leadership is to live in constant delusion. It is not going to happen.

One only need to underscore that very fact that the Amhara struggle is bone of abhorrence to the current divisive and apartheid centered constitution. The Amhara people have been made the punching bag for all political ills in the country and hence, subjected to untold persecution. We have to address the genesis of how the current Fano movement came to be in order to understand where it is going to end up.

The Amhara people are for unity, equality and a political order that is based on individual rights with due regard to group rights. TPLF came up with a divisive rule that gave them the upper hand in controlling the country's resources and power, and gave away what they though would help them solidify their grip in power. The OLF and other ethnic based political entities went with what TPLF brought to the country's political discourse and relatively benefited from it at the expense of the Amhara and those who found themselves to be Ethiopians residing in Cities and towns.

What the Amhara people are asking is plain and simple. If the political order is to be based on what we currently have as constitution, then respect the constitution and let the Amhara have their genuine representation. Let people who live in Cities and towns across the country elect their representatives with no pressure from those who control the power fulcrum at the federal level. We only need to glance how the Amhara region is structured and take a lesson. There are Oromo special zone, Agew special zone and qimant special zone, where the region is composed of 96% of people who claim to have Amhara ethnic identity. There are close to 20 million Amhara people outside of the Amhara region, not only with no representation but also under constant persecution and discrimination in various forms. I can tell you with full certainty that if the current constitution is to be implemented as written, the Amhara will be the permanent majority ruling the country. The constitution is a majoritarian benefiting ill conceived and misapplied document. Either respect it or tear it apart and change the rule. You can't have it both ways.

I am not sure the none Amhara folks do understand the magnitude of the deep pain felt by the Amhara people and the resolve they come to have, to get ride of a system that subjugated them to marginalization and slow extinction, once and for all. There are clos to 7 million students out of school in Amhara region as we speak. This is more than the people of the region of Tigre or Somali. Because the Amhara people deeply cared to safeguard the unity and sovereignty of the country is portrayed as a quest for dominance by TPLF/OLF, they both worked so intensely to dismantle the country working with whosever is against Ethiopia. Now we are at a juncture where the Amhara people have come to a collective understanding that their survival has to come first and foremost, they raised arms to defend their family, their property, their history and culture. If you want an Ethiopia which respects its citizens rights equally, it is time for all of ya to work for it. Otherwise, misrepresenting or subtly or overtly supporting the status quo isn't going to save the country or what you seem to care for.

Eskinder was pushed-off from participating in the elections because he was said not to prove his ''amhara'' purity. Basically, Eskinder was said to be a ''Gala'' and ruled out of power positions in Fano!
