I know how you feel about the unfortunate situation of one people, one religion and one language, at gunpoints with one another. Similar division of the Hausa and Fulani people exist from Cameron, Nigeria, Niger, Burkina Faso, Togo, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea, Senegal, Mali, mauritania.
An African people separately colonized by separate European colonizer such as Italy, France and Britain, imposing their customs and their languages. Worse still, one section given to Kenya instead of independence when Britain left. Another section conquered by the viciously violent Menelick II of Shewa kingdom
What method do you think will correct these historic wrongs? Democracy and compromise or brute force?
Siad Barre tried brute force when Somaliland was not this strong as it's now. He committed war crimes and genocides. 200 mass graves have been discovered. Hargeisa was turned to look like Dresden of Germany after the US, Britain and France bombed to rubbles.

A city where Amhara people are forbidden to enter, a city where its residents are weeded out because of their ethnic heritage, a city where OPDO militia kills its residents at will because of who they are.

Oldie Guragie Horsee,
Martin said the same thing about Tigray years ago. If you send him a few hundreds of dollars, he will say the same thing about tiny Guragie as well. Come to think of it, the State of Guragie could be a sustainable little country Iike Denmark.

The Gurage people are at cross roads. Their interest in preserving Ethiopia and their identity and culture, is slowly being eroded by those whose Gurages who support the current regime to preserve their fat pockets. People like Berihanu Nega and those Amharas working with PP are committing the same mortal mistakes in standing to support those who are killing the country from within. I can never understand the logics of how one is against TPLF and supporting the OLF group running the country. What did TPLF do that isn't being done by the current regime at a greater scale? Did they struggle against a system or the ethic Tigreans leading the country? Why are they supporting Abiy and negated Zenawi?Dama wrote: ↑16 Sep 2024, 13:05That includes Gurages as well other than those who sold out Gurage.Za-Ilmaknun wrote: ↑16 Sep 2024, 12:35Why is the park eerily quiet? The Gurage is not at any cross road. Gurage is at the very center of Ethiopian politics & Ethiopian agenda. At the end, nothing will happen. it is all about power and influence. Soon, all these noises will settle down following some kind of negotiation and balance of power. Everybody will come to the Gurage perspective, that is every ethnic group big and small needs Ethiopia. The sooner all these competing ethnics negotiate for some kind of rational power and resource sharing the better for their own good. The more things change the more they stay the same. Gurage is not at any kind of cross road. Gurage is at the very center of Ethiopian reality. Ethiopia will not go any where. Everybody will come to the center of Ethiopian Agenda.

What is the essence of negotiations? Why would those in power need to negotiate when in fact they can continue to enjoy the fruits of their power? It appears that you are in the opinion that those holding the power at the Federal level are about to be forced to negotiate? Who is forcing them? Obviously not those who are cheering for the demolition of houses owned by none-Oromos for the much hyped about corridor development. Everyone is ready to reap the fruits of those who are paying in blood and sweat doing the heavy lifting of forcing the regime to come to the table or better yet to be removed from the throne entirely. You can't just do nothing and expect for the cannibals to come to the table. "Victory has many fathers but defeat is an orphan" as the saying goes.Horus wrote: ↑19 Sep 2024, 13:45Za-Ilmaknun

Re: Martin Plaut: Ethiopia Will Be A Powerful and Prosperous Country and Remain a Leader of Africa
Za-Ilmaknun,
Here is my short answer.
1. Any ethnic group, unless it has an Ethiopia agenda, it can't lead Ethiopia in the long run. That's why those in power must negotiate with those who want to be in power.
2. Any ethnic group, be it in power or out of power, can't lead Ethiopia by opposing progress and improvements brought about by any other group in power.
Sea access, hydro power, mechanization of agriculture, modernization of cities, etc are Ethiopian agendas. Any group that opposes these types of national agendas is unfit to be in national politics let alone lead the nation.
3. Any ethnic group, in power or out of power must make the distinction between opposing those in power from Ethiopia's national interest.
4. Any and all ethnic groups are struggling for their own power, wealth, fame and dignity. No ethnic group liberates another ethnic group. The very idea of claiming to be liberator of other ethnic groups from another ethnic group is a psychology of arrogance.
5. Every ethnic group has its own mind to think about its own existence and its own interest.
Selam.

You are wrong again: there will be no power coming from touting one's guns. Power emancipates from the people, not from the good will of those holding it as a custodian of the people's power.Horus wrote: ↑19 Sep 2024, 13:45Za-Ilmaknun

If you think people could force their way into power by touting their guns, then you are still in the hostage of your old and failed political gimmick. If that is going to happen, then there are even more people who are going to raise their guns and the vicious cycle will go on ....
That is not what we see in reality on the ground.
Government has offered to negotiate with those trying to advance "their goals" by the means of violence and pledged to concede to their demands. But the negotiation partners started to demand the concession of power itself, which crossed the red-line for those currently holding power. If you want power, then go to the people and have it, by their blessing, we are not entitled to transfer to you the power.
That is the reason why the so called talks with Shane after two rounds of talks failed without any sort of progress.
ቂል Faandoo also thinks it could share power by just keeping to kill its own innocent people and robbing them as if there is no tomorrow. If Shanees case failed precisely due to this fact, then the case for any other party trying to follow the same route is a lost battle from the beginning.
The so called legal opposition's invariant demand is to establish a transitional government, to escape the hurdle of getting power through the consent of the governed, the armed gangs think they could come to power by means of killing and robbing innocents and calling for negotiations.
That will never happen!
