Born in Eritrea to Tigrayan Parents

Post by Dark Energy » 09 Sep 2024, 14:34

Here is the great Eritrean hero Yonus Ibrahim. He passed away years ago.
Some guy is singing his popular song. For those of you insulting Tigrayans, be careful. Some of them were far more patriotic Eritreans than you are.

The guy did okay. Yonus had a great voice. BTW, Yonus was patriotic Eritrean.
General Tedla Oqbit formed Police orchestra with the likes of Yonus Ibrahim to send messages directly to Haile Sellasie.

Another great Eritrean, a member of Police Orchestra, Ghirmay Wedi Filipo. Yonus and Ghirmay working with General Tedla Oqbit, gave Haile Sellasie, a lot of headaches. BTW, Wedi Filipo was Asmarino from Akele, Eritrea.

Zack,

Aside from this stupid politics, Tigrigna speaking Eritreans and Tigrigna speaking Tigrayans have many similarities and many differences as well. That is not unique in this World. Hate does not help anyone. By extension, amharas are our cousins as well. But, we live into separate countries. Our country folks in Eritrea are closer to home. Hence first we are Eritreans. That is where we draw the line. Tigrayans are Ethiopians with long running rich history along with Amharas and the rest of Ethiopians. We need to be two different countries as close neighbors. Similar to the US, the British, Canada, Australia and the rest of the countries with British ancestry. The problem is, both sides of the aisle have been victims of their governments.

People are mirror of their Government, You might bring one low IQ southerner from the street and coronate him to be the king of Ethiopia and once he is under domestic threat, it wouldn't take for him to scream Red Sea to divert people attention from their immediate problem and people will just follow like a headless herd. This is number one. Why do you think Haile selasie dissolved the Eritrean parliament and annulled the federation pact, the answer is simple, he was just scared that the rest of Ethiopians might demand the same right as Eritreans during the British protectorate which is a right to assembly, right to express your opinion without any repercussion.

Deqi,
The midget had no right to dissolve the Parliament. Eritreans were weak and devided at the time. Even back then, regionalism was a problem. Add toxic religious devide and most of all, the West stood behind Haile Sellasie, Eritrea’s fate was sealed. The rise of Hitler brought Mussolini to his knees. He had no choice but to work with Hitler. At the end of Second World War, Eritrea by extension was seen as a loser by the allies. There on, with the help of the British, Haile Sellasie was able to swallow Eritrea into the womb of Ethiopia.

It strikes my mind that the relationship between Tigrinya-speaking Eritreans and Tigrayans in Ethiopia bears a striking resemblance to that of the Flemish in Belgium and the Dutch in the Netherlands. The Flemish people of Belgium and the Dutch in the Netherlands share the same language, though the Flemish often refer to it as "Flemish," while the Dutch simply call it "Dutch" or "the language of the Netherlands."

There is ongoing debate among historians regarding whether the Flemish and the Dutch constitute distinct ethnicities or are fundamentally the same people divided by national borders. One of the distinctions between the two lies in their religious affiliations: the Flemish are predominantly Catholic, whereas the Dutch are divided between Catholicism and Protestantism. This mirrors the similarities and differences observed between the Tigrinya-speaking Eritreans and the Tigrayans.

Historically, the Flemish have been shaped by their longer period under Spanish rule, while the Dutch gained independence much earlier, contributing to their distinct identities.

Looking to the future, it seems plausible that Tigray might prefer aligning as a province of Eritrea rather than continuing as part of Ethiopia, given that full independence may no longer be a viable option.

You may have a weak spot for eritreans.
There is no clear demarcation of culture, language or even consanguinity bnnEritreans and Ethiopians save the smaller tribes. I am sure you know that! Historically they have been part of Ethiopia. The grudge is the region and the people have been under Italian colonization while their kins in the main land could not help much most likely due to the risk of the central government confronting Europeans/italians close to the red sea. Also eritreans have the sentiment their Tigrian cousins contributed to the annexation of Eritrea to the central government during Hailesselasie and they have other grudges on them too.
So partly why we don’t let it go and part our own way as different countries is we are still neighbors as well as the psychology of sibling rivalry is there. Resources may play a role too. Interestingly many Eritreans have Ethiopian friends and many Ethiopians have Eritrean friends. Don’t see it the loggerheads we have here persist in all our social life. The trouble is mainly with the politicians. It would be at the best interest of the people of both nations if peace prevails, people work together for better common end. That seems unacheivable right now but who knows the future? If the relation does not work out, it may be best to look the other way (peaceful divorce)-Not sure if this will ever happen?!
