Is the current Egypt's stunt in Somalia and elsewhere about GERD or Red-Sea?
Let's have a discussion, if not for us, it could be certainly a helpful starting point for the next generation of Ethiopians, who will going to face an existential threat as people of over 150 M very soon. Ethiopia is already the largest population size without secure and reliable sea access.
We are already looked down on the world stage by the very designation of not only "landlocked" but more so by the attached qualification of "largest landlocked" country in the world.
Why is El-Sisi so upset suddenly by the news of Ethiopia signing a MoU with Somaliland? Egypt's recent stunt in the region is not about the GERD, this has been already a fait-accompli, Egypt has already exhausted its options in this regard and settled itself with the completion of the GERD.
Ethiopia's fate is closely attached to both the water bodies of Abay and Red-Sea! We have to have our due share in both, no other option! Else we face an existential threat precisely!
How was Ethiopia detached from the Red-Sea by the process of a secession of a region of Ethiopia after her own contemporary leaders agreed with without even trying to sort out the possible risk for the country and its future?
Could this only possible under a scenario of Grand Conspiracy against Ethiopia? In the absence of such a conspiracy such an agreement has never been reached on by the representatives of one's own government anywhere in the world so far!
We know already more than enough about Egypt and Eritrea, possibly also Somalia, but why is even the minuscule nation of Djibouti on the Ethiopian border of the Red-Sea joining readily the stunt orchestrated centrally in Egypt?
Ethiopia has to decide now, before it could be too late!

Idioxt, you don't even focus who brought this problem to the region, your child PM. He invited Egypt. Did you forget unless you have amnesia. Woyane almost defeated Ethiopian army if it was not for shaebia that saved your country from disintegration. Listen to what your child PM said at the time when his power saved, but his stupixdity (Kehadi), he wants to claim our port. Eritrea will watch the drama.

ተከበ፣ ረገ በል፣ ምን ያለበት ምን አይችልም ይባላል፣ ተረጋገ።
If you are ripe enough, then focus on the issue of the topic here. We know what makes you unsettled suddenly.
To get back to the point here:
If Ethiopia faces an existential threat, then it is also her God given right to reciprocate by posing an existential threat to her adversaries. Those who live in a glass house shouldn't start throwing stones at others, goes the saying.
Ethiopia should start studying the geographic position of the Aswan Dam in Egypt, Egypt wanted the game and it has to also ready itself for all eventualities in return!
I am not part of the decision makers in Ethiopia but I feel to have been entitled to my opinion.

Enkef, read what I wrote. Your child PM invited Egypt, don't ramble nonxsense 120 million blah, blah. Ethiopia did not have existential threat except your child PM is trying to cause havoc in the region, your collected nations which is fragile by itself he should have focused to unite the country, but he is narcissist.
Re: Is the current Egypt's stunt in Somalia and elsewhere about GERD or Red-Sea?
DDT,
If you would like to have an honest discussion on this topic, here is what I can say. Cutting off Ethiopia from the Red Sea was along time well-thought plan of her foreign adversaries. The blue print of that plan was the Ethno-fascistic fragmentation developed by Italy which Woyane adopted and bragged about it. Meles Zenawi, with a strong familial tie with Italian-Ascari, duped Ethiopians and sold them out. This was even later proved when called off ENDF advancing to free Assab and re-unite with Ethiopia. To me everything Meles Zenawi signed in the name of Ethiopia is null and void. He was not a legitimate leader of Ethiopia - Ethiopia was occupied by Shabia and the separation of Eritrea is totally illegal ( people of Eritrea province were given choice of slavery or freedom).
My firm stand is, Ethiopia to unrecognize Eritrea and appeal that Assab was stolen forcefully under occupation. Since peaceful means is impossible to yield result and even if appealed the UN is colonizers syndicate, Ethiopia should ignore the UN and free Assab. Eritrea province is the colonial syndicates set up and is an existential threat. The UN holding Ethiopia hostage to weaken Ethiopia itself is an existential threat, by any means possible Ethiopia has to re-cover her stolen natural and legal Red Sea. There is no point to be a member of the UN while it has been often anti-Ethiopian interest. If Russia took back Crimea, there is no reason Ethiopia's to whine about their own Sea just 20 kms away. But this need a determined leadership and non-ethnocentric with a modern vision of doing away ethno-fascistic or ethnic-enclave( kill-all-ization ). The bottom-line, Ethiopia must have her own sea access. It is unjust, Ethiopia accounting almost 30% of African population, yet condemned to be landlocked. Every sacrifice MUST be made to recover our stolen sea - I am not a fan of war but I support a just war for justice.
Regarding Abay River, Egypt is already done. She must be stupid to make so much hiccup. Egypt must accept the new normal, equity is the value that should be held in the 21st century. Egypt should have been thankful to Ethiopia to have used Ethiopia's water free of charge for thousands of year. Ethiopia could have asked Egypt to pay money annually for use of Ethiopia's water and soil nutrient. This loud noisy Arab country is still stuck in the old past like Ascari-landers where their masters left them off. I think Ethiopia should think of using Abay River for large scale framing - because alternative energy sources are emerging besides hydro-electric power. It is true, the colonial machine, IMF /World Bank, used to refuse or decline Ethiopia's request to loan for building dam on Abay river. Now, when that dream becomes a reality, it become a nightmare for them as well.

Re: Is the current Egypt's stunt in Somalia and elsewhere about GERD or Red-Sea?
Abere,
yes, I am interested in honest and fact based discussion on this issue. The way I see it, the issue is above all sorts of division among the citizens. It is about the future of the nation, our children and the children of our children.
Facts so far:
- Ethiopia is the second most populous country in Africa and one of the top most populous in the world itself, and still rising population (already 3 fold of the size it had at the time Assab was taken away from it and declared "landlocked").
- This rising population needs to produce and access the market, two vital components of a national existence. To produce we need Abay, to access market we need the Red-Sea. If anyone has a doubt on this then I am ready to educate myself.
- This is a national security issue, transcending all kinds of internal divisions, including generational one. No big power can ensure the risk to Ethiopia be removed in the future, unless Ethiopia can start to take her fate into her own hands. We have seen as recently as the year 2024 and the years before that global dynamics with regard to maritime trade is very much risky and volatile. In our region of the world, there are many players coming to the play ground, the scenario could be even more scary.
We need to understand the problem to try to search for the solution: my question here is if there was and is a grand conspiracy scenario against Ethiopia to cut of either both or one of the water bodies her future is dependent on?
We have to bring our own facts on the ground forward in support of the scenario, or in disproving it.
Right now I am more of convinced there must have been such a conspiracy against Ethiopia: the recent Djibouti's stunt of suddenly caring for Ethiopia's concern and offering a use of her own ports needs to be looked at with scrutiny. It could serve as a clue on the presumed existence of a grand conspiracy. The same nation was dancing to the tune of the stunt the likes of Isayas Afeworki were staging in the immediate aftermaths of the signing of the MoU, collaborating against Ethiopia's effort to access the sea without any sort of impediments.
- The point you have raised with regard to the call back of ENDF after it has paid all the sacrifices to foil Shabia's attempted aggression on Ethiopia before it could secure the lost access to the sea could be also explained in the scenario of a grand conspiracy I am talking about here.
- Another point I am also looking at is why is Isayas Afworki not removed from power over the last more than 3 decades, even if it is clear that the man has practically changed nothing to improve the livelihoods of the Eritrean people themselves? It is a fact that he is simply a place holder contributing essentially nothing to the well being of the "liberated" citizens of Eritrea. Here I am asking myself if the Eritrean people themselves are taken hostage in the grand scheme of conspiring against Ethiopia. If there exists such a conspiracy, then it is also certain that the man is part of it. That explains the reason why more progressive Eritreans are hindered in taking leadership roles and start to improve the lives of the Eritreans themselves.
- Isayas Afworki is more attached to Egyptians than to Ethiopians, politically, ideologically, emotionally, and you name it. His aversion against Ethiopia is as clear as any thing in front of your own eyes.
If there is indeed such a conspiracy scenario, it must be also asked who are part of the scheme from Ethiopia itself?
Trying to understand the problem more clearly will ease the search for the solution. Exhausting all the available legal avenues will come before trying to resort to possible use of force to secure your future. Force should be the last option!

You think, after reading this and similar claims in many places, that Egypt's concern is about GERD. But in the same article where this was written you also read the following:“The illegal Ethiopian policies will have negative and grave consequences for downstream Egypt and Sudan," Egypt told the Security Council in Sunday's letter. “Egypt will continue to closely monitor developments and stay prepared to take all the measures and steps under the provisions of the UN charter to defend its existence and the interests of its people.”
Moreover the article writes the following with regard to Somalia's stunt:Egypt and Somalia have forged closer relations since landlocked Ethiopia signed a preliminary deal with the breakaway region of Somaliland this year to lease coastal land in exchange for possible recognition of its independence from Somalia.
https://www.thenationalnews.com/news/me ... -tensions/It has also threatened to bring home an estimated 10,000 Ethiopian troops there as part of a peacekeeping mission to fight Al Shabab militants, if the deal is not cancelled. Egypt has said it plans to apply to the African Union to be part of a new peacekeeping force in Somalia.

DDT,
___ The cardinal principle ( just like the Heavenly Almighty's inviolable Ten commandments) is, Country First. Making every sacrifice necessary to Never Compromise the Future Generations of Ethiopia is what every responsible citizen should do. You have clearly stated the need to heed to this and put at the center of thinking for the generations to follow us. Not only me, many Ethiopians do share and stick to this #1 principle. Of course, the world is full of angels and evils, there are selfish and egoistic one ( እነ እኔ ከሞትኩ ሰርዶ አይብቀሎች) who always put themselves first over everything, even before their Creator, God Almighty. Thank God, these are not many, had these sorts of people the majority, the world would not have existed at all. The history of Ethiopia is characterized by the war of Evils and Angels. Sadly, the እነ እኔ ከሞትኩ ሰርዶ አይብቀሎች are more plenty now than in the long history of Ethiopia. These egoist are exploiting the internal situation and cracks to let in cockroach Egypt and its [ deleted ] Ascari-land. My strong belief is, now, everything is clearly revealed to Ethiopians. Their country is at risk, it is their children, children' children. etc. that is on the line. No one will be an idle spectator.
___ You made it very clear, there has always been a grand conspiracy against Ethiopia's access to the Red Sea and use of her God given Abay River. For along time, handful of Ethiopians were confused or lack clarity about the drama behind, mainly because they were dissuaded by mercenary political elites. For instance, the EPRDF (TPLF) cadres tried everything to fight for Shabia(EPLF) whenever political opposition parties reflected their view, Assab is Ethiopia's lawful port and Red Sea access. They were even mocking at genuine citizens who raised their grievance. Since everything has an end, now, the naked truth has come out public, the Woyane tale is over. And Shabia, foul cried about Somalia even before it is touched. Unless some one is naturally retarded or well paid by Shabia, who on earth fails to understand the conspiracy or uncurable anti-Ethiopian sentiment of Shabia-Eritrea?
____ Like you said, war should never be #1 option. Ethiopia has to pursue or at least try the legal option first. If shamelessly, Shabia kept stolen Assab (under fraudulent, obvious collusion with anti-Ethiopian regional Tigre Liberation Front - which has nothing to do Ethiopia) and not only loud about it but be water carrier of Egypt, Ethiopia should never feel timid in asking Assab is mine. Unless a thief is told he/she is thief, he/she can walk safe like a serial criminal never caught. I hate to say this, since rebels such as EPLF/Shabia/ in general uncivilized and violent in nature, peaceful dialogue most likely would not bear positive results. Conflict and violence is their source of livelihood to stay in power. In the end, innocents would be consumed by war.
___ Also, you mentioned as to why Isaias Afeworki has been kept intact by the so-called big countries, while they knew Eritrea is the other most failed state as Italy-Somalia. The reason is clear, it is not he is powerful or has means to stand 10 specialized forces that took Bin Laden, because they wanted him to stay. Simply, he erratically talks foul about them does not matter for them - their gut knows why the put him over the interest of Ethiopia - having deceivingly flew out Mengistu Hailemariam. I say Ethiopians should learn from their past mistakes. Foolish farmers carried Woyane and Shabia on their backs to Addis Ababa, fed them ( especially Raya and Welqait people) but later they knew they carried snakes on their backs and fed snakes. Supporting Shabia and Egypt again will be sleeping with snakes - lethal poison.
___ Ethiopia, should capitalize on her gains ( who in his right mind ask to stop filling Abay dam - if not filled it will collapse) and also learn seriously from its failure. Tribalism is a recipe for disaster - it is time to pause, stop the TPLF manual of destruction ( i.e Dedebit constitution). Isaias Afework has been bragging off giving 100 year assignment to Ethiopia - 130 million people. It is the centuries most heinous crime to think landlock where 1 in 3 Africans are living and where Africa's most voluminous product are produced; and in fact, a count the gate way to continent Africa. Unfortunately, this generation received the bad legacy of EPRDF and also is an opportunity to correct history and leave the great legacy that outlive them - like King of kings Emiye Menelik II.

yes, I am interested in honest and fact based discussion on this issue.

Abere,
A landlocked country, internationally recognized as such, only because it has a large population doesn't entitle a country to own a naval base on a sea or ocean coast but deserves to have access to seaport. This is achieved by a treaty. For example, Menelick's Shewa Kingdom and Later Ethiopia' right to use the port of Zaila without taxation was achueved in negotaiation the British Empire.
By signing away Eritrea as an Italian colony, including Assab and Massawa, Menelick landlocked Ethiopia, in exchange for weapons to annex Oromo and southern ethnic groups.
Historically, Ethiopia never had its own seaport except for few decades after the dissolution of Eritrean confederation with Ethiopia.
Ethiopia has paid access to sea in Djibuti and Kenya. No one nation in tge world objects to Ethiopia having as many access to seaports.
What is objected is why Clown Abiy Ahmed should require a naval base on the Red Sea ?
.......
Selam, I do not post this to show that I belong more or less than you do to Ethiopia. The fact that Tigray is militarily armed should not bestow on Tigrayans to feel they have more civili and political rights than those ethnic groups that do not have an armed and violent terrorists. If they do, they are wrong. I am here challebging it.

In my view Naval base is just a tool to achieve something like a port is, only the purpose differ. Do you think it is a luxury? Do you also think having a port is a luxury as well?
In my little understanding having a clothing as necessary as having food items at the personal level, why are you insisting only one of them should suffice?
Come out of your closet and explain yourself!

Dama,
It is futile to present the universal truth before someone who has been drunk and intoxicated by the hate of Ethiopia. Everything did in the past and has done is a pain by their arse for Ethiopian haters. But they have to live with that for the rest of their lives until they k!ss goodbye from God's green earth. Yes, Ethiopia owned Red Sea, was among the fewest civilization of the world; and Ethiopia will restore once again her presence and dominance on the Red Sea.
Abere is not someone who would try to pour water on a basalt rock designed to be anti-Ethiopia and be Ethiopia proof by whatever molders. I present the fact I know and the fact that will prevail in the end. No earthly force will twist or defraud Ethiopia to stop seeking what she historically owned. Ethiopia will prevail and triumph, live with it. Many (Muslim, Christian, etc. ) will be on the line to sacrifice the most precious sacrifice and write history as their ancestors did in the past.
Egypt and her minions would be fukked by Ethiopians as their ancestors were fukked by our ancestors. You will hear them moaning when they got scr-ewed hard

DDT,
Why would a landlocked country need a navy base on a sea or ocean court. It has no border there. Its territory doesn't reach there. No border to protect. Naval base is to protect a coubtry's sovereign territory from hostile aliens.
Only countries whose legal territories include seas and oceans, upto 200 miles out on the sea, have the duty and right to protect it from illegal and alien use.
