What the fuss if Ethiopia recognizes Somalliland as a nation?

Post by Odie » 30 Aug 2024, 10:33

Firstly I won’t believe MoU implemented untill the clown posts official letter!

Secondly, I don’t see a reason for somalia to start a war with Ethiopia. You can not go to a war with one country because it rcognizes a runaway region from you. About 12 small countries recognize Taiwan as a country but it is not a country for so many years; it needs 2/3 or more vote in UN to be recognized as a country. So it is not a big deal for Somalia if one country recognizes Somaliland as a nation. Somalia has a lot of job to do at international stage than initiate war with Ethiopia. Somalia has to play diplomacy game, lobbying to avoid recognition of somaliland by many other countries. Somalia may wish to capture the runaway region by force but will it be able to do so? May be lobby somaliland or convince somalilanders not to declare nationhood. What somalia may do at best is start conflict when Ethiopia starts to use the infamous port or support Ethiopian oppositions to create a problem.

Thirdly, the OPDO port + airlines deal is tylenol for a bleed inside the brain. It does not go far enough. Useless agreement. Not worth the hassle. What the country should strive for is for its own port-Assab/Dijoubuti. If Somaliland was willing to confederate or federate with Ethiopia, we would dance to it! This would be the permanent solution to the unruly world famous chaotic Eritrean thugs. Build the wall, neglect them and let them cook for their own. At this juncture, it is very difficult to believe Ethiopia and Eritrea each with their own ego will work together in peace for better end of their people.

If Somaliland gets statehood at UN that would indicate chaotic somalia is gone for ever, until the Lord comes-punt land in the pipeline. That would be the end of the Ziadbare idea of the greater Somalia! Perhaps kenya and Ethiopia might get some rest

However, I must express that Ethiopia harbors no genuine intention of recognizing Somaliland. Do not be swayed by exaggerated claims; if Ethiopia had truly desired to acknowledge Somaliland's sovereignty, it would have done so many years ago. The Memorandum of Understanding was nothing more than a bargaining chip, a means to gauge the strength of Somalia's diplomatic resolve. This strategy, however, has backfired. Ethiopia never intended to proceed with the agreement, but in the end, they have lost more than they gained, including their influence within the African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).

As for Somaliland, it remains in a state of limbo, largely because the African Union is not inclined to endorse the fragmentation of the Somali Republic. The only viable path to recognition for Somaliland lies in negotiating a separation referendum with Somalia, akin to the precedents set by Eritrea and Ethiopia or South Sudan and Sudan. The international community does not look favorably upon unilateral secession, and this remains the core issue. I can assure you, Ethiopia will not be recognizing Somaliland anytime soon.

Ethiopia should do all it can to remedy its unjustified and unfair treatment by its hostile neighbors as a result of the lack of access to the sea. the deal with Somaliland is a win win for both parties and every Ethiopian should stand behind the nation in that regard. the only problem is our timing stinks because we are at our weakest stage today as opposed say 5-10 years ago. that hurts deeply! but better late than never....

If UK or another European country recognizes Somaliland as a country, Al Shabab run Somalia would simply shut up her mouth and never wagging tail around the door steps of any noisy Arab country. It is noisy when Ethiopia is doing, because it is a trap setup by the West to hold back Ethiopia. Italian-Somalia and Italian-Eritrea are an absolute existential threat to Ethiopia. It is totally understandable, the timing is imperfect and the country does not have a unifying leader, but it should be underlined, Ethiopia should stop nursing the problem of babysitting these plies of colonialists who have an inveterate dream of weaking and holding back Ethiopia from its aspiration of development. All the war in the region is to hold back Ethiopia.

1. I don’t know what advantage Ethiopia was bargaining for in this? Port from somalia? Ethiopia can rent port anywhere from its neighbors! May be the clown was using Somaliland to irritate the shabia stoogs when they refused to assist the internal opposition he faces.

2. Ethiopia never ment to recognize somaliland.
Makes a little bit sense but even if Ethiopia did not recognize Somallilqnd years back, needs change. And the Oromuma system is new. It used to be TPLF before. Perhaps, who knows there may be additional/ulterior motive between somaliland and Ethiopia such as long term economic integration at least which is not impossible.

3. Ethiopia obviously lost a lot of diplomatic gains during the current ethnic motivated regime. That is mainly a part of poor foreign policy than a gain by Somalia.

...Egypt will protect and build Somalia ...
The opportunist Arab comes to your house in the name of Islam, either to make money, rob your property, enslave you, burn your languages and identity or to sell your daughters and wife to Arab's sex slave market.
The Abid slave Zoomali reminds me the proverbial Habesha saying:

በኣማርኛ፥
ብልቱ የተቆረጠ ባርያ ፡ በጌታው ቁላ ይፎክራል።

በትግርኛ፥
መሸኒቱ እተሰልበ ባርያ ፡ ብሽልሖ ጎይታኡ ይፍክር።
Roughly translated: A slave Abid who lost his pe*nis boasts, praising his master's pe*nis.
