Ethiopian women have always played key roles in the country's long history. But in the recent history of the country there were not many women in the prominent positions in the country's social, economic, political and other sectors, undeservedly.
Today Ethiopia is charting into a new territory, if it succeeds, then she will rewrite her history and with that the return of Ethiopian women to their prominence is a foregone conclusion.
Behind the country's profound leap forward on the path of development and progress in other socio-political fields are also the roles of the Ethiopian Women, which they destined to gain the prominence they deserves, after many decades.
People like Dr. Fistum Assefa who has reportedly played key role in securing the current IMF/WB funding for the development program of the country, are destined to rewrite Ethiopian Woman's role in Ethiopia's rise to prominence and development. The fund is said to be the maximum amount that has been given to any sub-saharan countries so far in history.
The same can be said of the very hardworking and young Frehiwot Tamiru, CEO of Ethio-telecom, perhaps one of the most top profitable, if not the most top, Enterprise in the country. She has already written her and that of the Ethiopian women's history already.
The same or even more can be said of Adde Adanech Abiebie, the first woman Mayor of Addis, under whose leadership the city is literally rebuilt and modernized very much.
The first Lady of Ethiopia, even if I am not sure if that title is also home-grown or if Ethiopia doesn't have its own title for the role of the wife of the country's leader, Addie Zinash Tayachew, who has already built perhaps more than 40 or 50 modern schools all over the country and known to champion the cause of the poor (she has also built a number of modern bakeries, also all over the country). All those students that passed through the schools she has built so far come out one day and remember her as one of their top Heroines.
Ethiopia has also seen the first head of state as a woman also during this time and this too is destined to rewrite the country's women history.
All these and many more in the different leadership role in the country are taken as a role models for millions of women to come over generations.
