In the Raya Amhara region alone, over 4000 women and children became victims of gang rape at the hands of invading TPLF forces. The number of rape victims in Raya is actually much higher than reported, because the overwhelming majority of victims choose to suffer in silence due to the negative stigma society attaches to rape victims.

In Tigray, agame fathers are known to rape their own daughters in order to turn them into street prostitutes that bring home money. Such behavior is rarely condemned by the Tigrayan society because almost "every father does it."
