Although adopting a floating exchange rate reflects disruption in the short-term, including speculation, to start with, it can have a positive impact on the economy in the long-term, as it can contribute in correcting trade imbalances with other trading countries.

It is not my intention to pursue this discussion but I just want to say that, even though you and I disagree with respect to our political positions, you are an educated person. I don't believe most of the folks here have a clue about the meaning of Bretton Woods, what it means to be on Gold standard, how exchange rates are determined by daily trading, how central banks control or regulate money supply and demand through lending, interest rate mechanisms and how governments buy back or sell money to regulate the amount of money in the market in line with rates of inflation. በንግድ ባንክና በብሄራዊ ባንክ መሃል ያለውን ልዩነት ማወቃቸውንም እጠራጠራለሁ

I do not think devaluation is the best way to get out of the financial quagmire the Orommuma thug is wallowing. It sounds to me cheating ( Ponzi thug) instead of rolling up his sleeve to work and earn national income. A viable economy is not one that is brainless and commandeered by outsider Zombie. A brainless economy can never stand on its feet, no matter what. It is true the "Black Market" is a true performance indicator - it has been telling how much the Ethiopian really worth's in the market; at the same implying how deep the economy has fallen. Oromumma thug has no option other than again to sit idle, trash Birr further so as to procure Christmas decoration lights, amusement parks, down town night club, coffee shops and restaurants in stead of taking stringent economic measure to get the economy back on track. Following this news ( which the likes of DDT are cheering), the Black Market will soar; in stead of $1 = Birr 120; it would be $1= 200 Birr. Already, poverty has been growing at an exponential rate; it will add more misery.

Abiy Ahmed is desperately looking for hard currency to procure military weapons so as his Orommuma monster can stay in power. He is not about transforming the country economically,, he is all about how to build an Orommuma hegemony.
