"ነጩ ዶክተር ካላከመኝ"




ዶክተር አስናቀው ታፈረ ለረጅም ዓመታት በልብ ህክምና መምህርነት ሞያ ያገለገሉ የጤና ባለ ሞያ ናቸው። ህዝብን ማገልገል ክብር ነው፣ ድሃ ወገንን ከህመም ስቃይ እና ከሞት ለመታደግ በህክምና ሞያ ማገልገል ደግሞ ድርብ ክብር ነው የሚል ፅኑ እምነት አላቸው።

ዶክተር አስናቀው ታፈረ ከአንድ ነጭ ተማሪያቸው ጋር በጥቁር አንበሳ ሆስፒታል ውስጥ ሆነው ህመምተኞችን እየጎበኙ ነው። አንድ በአንድ ህመምተኞቹን እያዳረሱ ፣ አንድ ትግራዋይ የልብ ህመምተኛ ጋር ደረሱ።

ትግራዋዩ ነጭ–አምላኩ ነበሩና " ነጩ ዶክተር ካላከመኝ" ብለው ድርቅ አሉ። እንግዲህ ወጣቱ ነጭ ዶክተር አስናቀው ታፈረን ፣ በትምህርት ደረጃ ፣ በስራ ልምድ ፣ በግል ተሰጥኦ ይወዳደራል ተብሎ አይታሰብም ። ከእርሳቸው ሰፊ ልምድ ፣ ስር ሆኖ ሊማር በፈቃደኝነት የመጣ ነው።

ትግራዋዩ ግን በሀሳባቸው ፀኑ። ስለዚህ ዶክተር አስናቀው መላ ዘየዱ። እርሳቸው ለነጩ ተማሪ እንደ ረዳት ሆነው ትግራዋዩን ሊመረምሩ። በዚህ መሰረት ነጩ ተማሪ የዶክተር አስናቀውን መመሪያ እየተከተለ ትግራዋዩን መረመረ። በሽታቸውም ታወቀ።

ዶክተር አስናቀው የፈውስ መድሃኒቱን ማዘዣው ላይ ፅፈው ለነጩ ተማሪ አስረከቡ። ተማሪው ደግሞ ለትግራዋዩ።

ትግራዋዩ ፣ መልአክ የመሰለ ነጭ ሰው ስላከማቸው በጣም እየተደሰቱ፣ ገና መድሃኒቱን ሳይወስዱ የመሻል ስሜት እየተሰማቸው ፣ ሆስፒታሉን ለቀው ወጡ።

ከጥቂት ሳምንታት በኋላ፣ ዶክተር አስናቀው ያንን ትግራዋዩ ሰውዬ ከመንገድ ያገኟቸዋል። የተለመደ ጥያቄያቸውንም ይሰነዝራሉ ፦ "እንዴት ኖት አሁን? ጨርሶ ተሻሎት?"

ትግራዋዩ ሲመልሱ ፦ "አሁን ፍፁም ጤነኛ ነኝ። ጭራሽ አሞኝ አያውቅም። ያ የተባረከ ፈረንጅ በሙሉ ነው የፈወሰኝ"

ዶክተር አስናቀው በትግራዋዩ የጤንነት ሁኔታ ተደስተው፣ አሁን እውነቱን ብነግራቸው ችግር የለውም ብለው አሰቡና፦ "ይኸውሎት አቦይ፣ ፈረንጁ የኔ ተማሪ ነበር ፣ ከኔ ሊማር ነው የመጣው። ያከምዎት ፣ ህመምዎን ያገኘሎት ፣ መድሐኒት ያዘዘሎት እሱ አይደለም፣ እኔ ነኝ" ቢሉ፣

ትግራዋዩ መልሰው፦ "ለዚያ ነዋ የልብ ህመሙ እየደጋገመ የሚነሳብኝ!"

Excerpts From The agame Alemseged Abbay's Book - "Identity Jilted or Re-Imagining Identity"

"What is interesting here is that neither the Italians nor the Turks, Egyptians or Mahdists are mentioned here as historical enemies by majority of the Tigrayans (82.1%) start and end with the Amhara Shoa. It is the Amhara (Shoa) who come to the minds of Tigrayans when they think of their enemies in history. The anti Amhara feelings of most of the Eritreans are a lot milder than those of Tigrayans. (Alemseged Abbay –Identity Jilted page 154)

Interview with Haleqa SeQuar

• "Amhara!...always Amhara! The Showans always intrigue against us. They always want to hurt us. Their chauvinism has put us where we are today. Let God help us be more patient and tolerant than they are." (haleqa sequar)

Such statements are clear references to “atavistic hatreds” and “ancestral enmities.” The potency of the atavistic hatreds and ancestral enmities was shown by answers given to the question of whether Tigrayans feared being treated by Amhara doctors. 64.3% of the Tigrayan civilians categorically said they do not trust Amhara doctors.One 85 years- old Tigrayan would not trust Amhara Doctors and said,

• "Oh no! I would not trust them...I have heard that the Amhara doctors have eliminated many educated Tigrayans. I prefer to be treated by a white doctor…The Amhara are really mean-spirited. They do not have guts but when it comes to evil deeds, they are good at them…Let God punish them for their atrocities."

When asked who their historical enemies are, one elder bitterly answered:

• "Shoa! Shoa! Shoa! They are cruel, mean, satanic. Shoa? Give me a break! None –believers in God. Mean…They are cruel. Cruel! Cruel! Cruel!...When I was in Gore [South Western Ethiopia] in the 1970s, for instance, I knew a Showan Amhara… From the moment he came to know that I was a Tigrayan, he completely stopped talking to me They go three steps backward when they know you are a Tigrauyan and act as if they do not know you. Cruelty? Showan cruelty, my goodness, you cannot imagine!"

As I pointed out earlier, says Alemseged Abbay (the author of Identity Jilted), the response of Eritreans that they do not fear being seen by Amhara doctor… Old wounds in Tigray are recalled more easily than in Eritrea, which was not under the Amhara rule for most of the century.(Alemseged Abbay- page 165)

True story. When Oprah came to Ethiopia to inaugurate a new school she had built for children, the agame thought a white woman who accompanied Oprah on the trip was the one who built the school and started singing songs of praises to her. The incident angered Oprah to the extent that she started having regrets opening the school.
