They could've tried to take welkait for years and never did, despite them outnumbering their neighbors 5 to 1, if not more. They had to wait for eritrea and the states military to go fight first. All this talk about them saving the army sounds good but even if it were true, they did so for the same reason Eritrea got involved: because it was in their national interests. They did it for their own interests which is natural, logical and expected.
