Turkey did not sign agreement with Somalia to protect or defend Somalia but to counter or kick UAE out of Somalia and Somaliland. Now, UAE just like in Sudan will sabotage Turkey's maritime hegemonic ambitions in the Horn of Africa. This is not about Somalia's sovereignty , it is about UAE v. Turkey regional (global) struggle for economic maritime sea port dominance.

Also, given the demographic and economic size of Ethiopia, Ethiopia is the most in tipping the balance of the equation and Ethiopia consistently factors in the most in contrast to other tiny states in the region. Switching sides frequently could be there, but it is so hard to outmaneuver Ethiopia, because technically East Africa means Ethiopia.

I agree. I just finished reading a EU analysis of UAE/Turkey relations. Now, I am convinced that UAE is going to aggressively counter Turkey's dominance of Somali coast and Bab El Mendeb. My guess is that one most possible way of doing that for UAE is to directly or indirectly hasten the recognition of SLR so that a sovereign SLR stops Turkey's total dominance. On the other hand, so long as Somalia exercises sovereignty over all of Somali waters, UAE will be a net loser.

You are right in that these two powers - UAE & Turkey need local forces and population on the ground to actualize their games and UAE is in a superior position with Ethiopia and SLR on its side.

What will be interesting is what US, Russia, China, & Saudi will do .

You are absolutely right, UAE will may recognize Somaliland to thwart Turkey's ambition in Somalia. Also, UAE is undoubtedly the winner in regard achieving dominance in the Mediterranean sea, Red Sea and the Bab El Mendeb: UAE is financially more powerful, has the closet geographic proximity, positioned her alliance with regional power (Ethiopia) and rightful owner (Somaliland) compared to Turkey (with swinging self identity claiming one time a European country an other time member of Arab - very fluid). UAE's quest for dominance in the Seas sounds more a matter of essentiality, but for Turkey (ሞፈር ዘመት) is optional. Turkey is not economically a powerful country although she has large army. Besides, Turkey's partner, Somalia, is an Al Shaba infested territory - for a sane investor doing business with Somalia is the worst nightmare scenario.

In any case, #1 it is a golden opportunity for Somaliland; #2, this opens a door for the world to accept the legitimacy of Ethiopian right in the Red Sea; #3) Eritrea exposed her true color for those Ethiopians who even in the last 5 years throw their support.
