Somaliland lawmakers shoot down Red Sea access deal with Ethiopia.
MOGADISHU, Somalia
Lawmakers in Somalia's breakaway region of Somaliland have rejected a maritime access deal with Ethiopia.
In a joint statement late on Tuesday, members of both houses of Somaliland's parliament, mainly from the coastal Awdal and Salal provinces, said the Red Sea access deal was "illegal" and aims to "harm the unity of the people of Somaliland."
"We have rejected the deal and its implementation and we are calling the government to stop and retract the memorandum of understanding," said the statement.

So, this is a Somaliland internal clan economic issue which Ethiopia will handle carefully. Adwal wants its own Sultanate, a Somaliland internal issue. Yes, Somalis are potentially going to be divided into 6 states. In the case of Ethiopia, we can not develop the 3 ports of Somaliland all at the same time. So, Somalilanders need to make economic deals that is fair to all clans and step by step develop all the 3 ports, Zeila being one of them. in any event, this is what needs to happen!!!NOTHING HAPPENS UNTIL SOMETHING MOVES! LET THINGS SHAKE UP A LITTLE BIT!!

If an Ethiopian were ever able to annex any part of Somalia, Zenawi would have done so.
FYI, the US and UK both entertained and endorsed silently and behind the curtain the secession of Somaliland for many years, but they've finally realised that they've to concede in favour of the Somali unity and territorial integrity.
