Addis Ababa February 20 /2024 (ENA) Finance Minister Ahmed Shide met with US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Ambassador Molly Phee, the Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Ambassador Michael Hammer and US Ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin Massinga.
On the occasion, the Minister briefed the US Delegation on Ethiopia’s economic situation, prospects and ongoing macroeconomic reforms critical for growth and jobs.
The two sides held constructive discussions on working together to address Ethiopia’s humanitarian needs, including mobilizing such support through the IMF and World Bank.
War-torn Ethiopia must secure an International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan by March 31, 2024, as mandated by the Paris Club of developed creditor nations. Failure to meet this deadline could nullify war-torn landlocked Ethiopia’s agreement with bilateral creditors to suspend debt payments until 2025.
