UAE ‘might be the next mover’ if Ethiopia recognizes Somaliland

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The United Arab Emirates is likely spearheading Ethiopian plans to recognize Somaliland in exchange for an access to the Red Sea and might be the next country to follow suit, Alex de Waal a British researcher on African politics said in an interview with the BBC.

“The key here is the United Arab Emirates and this has Abu Dhabi’s fingerprints all over. They are strongly supporting Abiy Ahmed. They are very interested in Somaliland and its ports. They have a very assertive regional diplomacy that is not respecting the norms and principles of the African Union,” de Waal told BBC’s News Hour.

“So, it is possible that the UAE might be the next mover but that wouldn’t necessarily set off a cascade. It might actually further inflame regional jealousies and rivalries because Saudi Arabia, Qatar and a number of other spects are observing the UAE’s activities in the Horn.”

But why doesn't Emirates recognize Somaliland instead of using Abiy like one uses a condom? Are you Ethiopians so devoid of dignity that you are willing to be f.u.c.k.e.d like this!

Once Ethiopia recognizes Somaliland a number of countries are in que such as Great Britain, Israel and USA. For Ethiopia it is a strategic move to get acess to the Sea and to counter other geopolitical games played by Egypt.

sesame,
where is ur logic. Let me tell you what UAE lets Abiy do the job first. If war arises, it will be Ethiopia tat is near by to do the fight. But Abiy is not doing it for free. Abiy gets a piece of sea coast that he can control and be free from the greedy tiny Djibouti. And Somaliland get a lot money and modern port. can't you see this?

Djibuti is not greedy as such,it is UAE using a willing partner to exact revenge in exchange for a fistful of dollars.China now runs Doraleh Container Terminal not DP (UAE) after falling out with Djibuti.the chinese also built the railway from Djibuti to AA .so the whole idea of Abiy running errands for UAE in Somaliland can only be described as STUPID.
