USA has changed its Integrated country strategi for Eritrea

Post by eritrea » 20 Dec 2023, 20:21

The November 2022 Cessation of Hostilities Agreement brought an end to a two-year conflict in northern Ethiopia and precipitated the withdrawal of Eritrean troops from the Tigray region. The peace process and Eritrea’s de-escalation of military presence provides an opportunity to reshape bilateral relations with Eritrea to a more productive end, including peace and development in the Horn of Africa. The U.S. Embassy in Asmara, Eritrea, strives to build on this positive change and increase the understanding between the people of the United States and the people of Eritrea. Eritrea’s return to the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) also presents an opportunity to encourage positive and constructive relations between Eritrea, its neighbors, and regional organizations, and to promote resolution of Horn of Africa matters with a focus on sustainable regionally led solutions.

What could be the reason?

God bless the houthis 🤣🤣🤣
I just learned that Eritrea can choke the world at the bab elmandeb just like the houthis… this is empowering to Eritreans to know and learn that the strategic location of the country is the best and sensitive at the same time.
Back in 2018 sanctions lifted as a result of the Yemen-Saudi- uae war
And now Houthis disturbing the Red Sea is making the ferenjis to rethink their idiotic and hostile policy on Eritrea. I can see them lifting their sanctions soon

Eritrea need to look north to the Red Sea and forget Ethiopia, Sudan and Africa for that matter to prosper…
Prosperity is in the Red Sea, Egypt, Saudi, Israel, EU, china, Russia…Assab located on the maritime line compete with Dubai and bring prosperity to Eritrea…

Eritrea's withdrawal of military forces from northern Ethiopia in response to the November 2022 Cessation of Hostilities Agreement, Eritrean efforts to facilitate peaceful resolution of the conflict in Sudan, and Eritrea's more transparent, proactive and positive foreign policy outreach to regional ...17 nov. 2023

What could be the reason?

Some of the reasons are as follows, as I understand them:
1) Sudan is in an unfortunate situation that may lead sadly into yet another disintegration and breakup further after what has happened with the 2011 secession and the creation of South Sudan.
2) The insecurity conditions that have been manifested lately by "unfriendly" Houthi rebels against the International Lane in the Red Sea aka ባሕሪ ኤርትራ።
3) Abey Ahmed-led Ethiopia appears to be on a slippery slope with a selfish, self-aggrandizing leader if one can call him a leader. The country that traditionally survived with the alms of foreign countries seems to be unable to repay the interests of the myriad loans it gets from various financial world outfits and is on its way to loan sanctions. Add to that Ethiopia's empty but highly bellicose noises against Eritrea that may not have been appealing to US interests (whatever they may be).
4) Eritrea's latest international rendezvous with important countries including Kenya and South Africa and of course it's rejoining of IGAD for what it is worth.
5) Last, but not least, Eritrea's world acclaim of being the island of peace in the volatile Horn region.

The Biden administration is very concerned about salvaging Ethiopia from imminent disintegration of its own doing more than ever before. A country teetering toward default, facing Biblical famines, a low IQ Prime Minister, and bloody civil wars on two fronts, is going to need some miraculous intervention to save it from itself.

Thanks for sharing!
I read most of it and seems to be the best so far from the biden regime. They need to lift their sanctions that was imposed to succeed their evil agenda on Eritrea through their proxy telalaki dead tplf. Lift the sanctions now
The biggest losers are telalaki banda tplf (no mention of Tigray in the document) Tigray is irrelevant in the region

.... as highlighted by President Isaias, Eritrea has many areas of economic investment, environmental concerns, and technical exchanges in which the United States, committed to upholding the highest international standards for business practices and rule of law, brings a better competitive position compared to PRC investments and activities.
The fact that self-reliant Eritrea is able to generate revenue from its mining sector by working outside the US dollar system, it has effectively made the illegal, unilateral economic sanctions imposed on the country meaningless. We know that US mining companies operating in Tanzania only give 5% of the proceeds to the African country. But in Eritrea, where the rule of law is upheld to the highest standards, the country gets a lion's share of the profits from its mining activities. IQ Matters.

What could be the reason?
They've tried to convince us politics is guided by applied ethics......We've also seen them invoking the Liberal Gospel whenever it suits them. Yet, in practice, Realpolitik is incompatible with moral or ethical premises.......Interest is what matters!- that has been the guiding principle of the west's politics. Never mind the African chimps who get bamboozled by the buzzwords- democracy, constitution, election,etc....- of the west!

This is one of these situations- Realpolitik!

If a cargo ship stuck on the Suez Canal could cause $10 Billion in losses for global trade during the 6 days it blocked maritime traffic, imagine what a full blown war on the Red Sea could do to the world's economy. This can only be prevented by all regional stakeholders working together to defuse the tension, and I'm not surprised with the apparent rapid paradigm shift in geo-politics, where the stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.

One sentence will sum it up. Eritreans refused to be reduced with has happened to them.
I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it.

I totally agree with your understanding of the situation.

It is a mixture of everything that were mentioned that is behind the changed strategies towards Eritrea.

The course of events in the middle east seems to worsen more in the next few days as well. Since Israel is planning to take military offensive against Lebanon.

But, what is even more worrying is, that Abi's frustration is spilling over to innocent Eritreans living in Ethiopia. History keeps repeating itself.
