Conflict in Oromia region displaces 1.3 million, causes devastating impact on communities

According to the Center for Development and Capacity Building (CDCB), the ongoing instability in the Oromia region has resulted in the displacement of approximately 1.3 million people. In a recent report released by the organization, it was revealed that the violence has not only led to displacement and loss of life but also caused significant destruction of property, disrupted development works, and eroded the communal fabric of the region.

The CDCB report highlights that out of the 1.3 million displaced citizens in the Oromia region, 374,400 individuals (29%) are currently residing in shelters, while the remaining 71% are scattered throughout the community. The report further emphasizes that a staggering 859,000 people (66%) have been displaced from just two zones: East Wollega and West Wollega.

The consequences of this conflict extend beyond displacement. The report reveals that 739 schools in the region have been forced to cease operations, impacting more than 210,000 children who have been unable to attend school due to their displacement. Furthermore, the conflict has resulted in the loss of employment for 1,117 teachers and education professionals.

Moreover, the report highlights the devastating impact on healthcare facilities, with 208 of them being completely destroyed and an additional 788 partially damaged. Disturbingly, 10 ambulances have been stolen, 45 have been burnt, and 25 are currently out of service.

UNICEF reports that approximately 7.6 million children in Ethiopia are currently unable to attend school due to a combination of man-made and natural disasters. Out of a total of 8,552 schools surveyed, nearly 20% have been partially or severely damaged. The report released last week highlights that ongoing conflicts in regions like Amhara and Oromia have significantly contributed to the high number of out-of-school children.

The longer these children are unable to attend school, the less likely they are to return to formal education, warns the report. Furthermore, the education cluster is severely underfunded, with only 22% coverage provided by current funds, which support around 851,000 children. This falls far short of the target set by the humanitarian response plan for Ethiopia, which aims to reach 3.8 million children by the year 2023.

In light of these challenges, efforts have been made to support children's access to education. Teaching and learning materials have been distributed to around 357,948 children, and back-to-school campaigns have been carried out across all regions, including those affected by disruptions such as Amhara and Tigray.

ኣብ ዝሰፍሐ ክልል ኣምሓራ፣ ዕጡቓት ፋኖ ምስ ፌዴራል መንግስቲ ኣብ ከቢድ ህዝባዊ ኩናት እዮም ዘለዉ። ዝሰፍሐ ክፋል ክልል ኣምሓራ ካብ ቁጽጽር ፌደራል መንግስቲ ወጻኢ ብፋኖ እዩ ዝመሓደር ዘሎ።

እዚ ሰራዊት ግዳይ ኣብታ ሃገር ዘሎ ፖለቲካዊ ነዉጺ ብምዃኑ ሞራሉ ዝሰፈፈ፣ ናይ ምዉጋእ ዓቕሙ ድኹም፣ ኣዘዝቱ ብብሄር ዝተተፋነኑ እዮም። ብሰንኪ እዚ ድማ ብመልሻታት ዕጡቓት ብኣሽሓት ዝቕተል፣ ዝስንክልን ዝማረኽን ኮይኑ ኣሎ።

ቁጠባ ኢትዮጵያ ኣብ ኣዝዩ ዘሰክፍ ዉድቀት ኣትዩ ኣሎ። ናይ ወጻኢ ዕዳ (foreign debt) ልዕሊ ዓቕሚ ናይ'ታ ሃገር እዩ።

መጠን ክብሪ መነባብሮ ልዕሊ ዝኾነ እዋን (all time high) ኣትዩ ኣሎ። ሓደ ዶላር 111 ብር ይሽረፍ ኣሎ። ክብሪ ዋጋ ክራይ ገዛ ልዕሊ ዓቕሚ ማእከላይ እቶት ዘለዎም እዩ። እቲ ዝበዝሕ ኢትዮጵያዊ ነዚ ክብሪ መነባብሮ ክጻወሮ ኣይከኣለን። ኣብዮት ኣሕመድ ድማ ብኣማኢት ቢልዮናት ዶላር ቤተ መንግስቲ ኣብ ኣዲስ ኣበባ ይሃንጽ ኣሎ።

ብልሽዉና ካብ ቁጽጽር ወጻኢ ኮይኑ ኣሎ። ኣብ ዝኸድካዮ ኣብያተ ጽሕፈት መንግስቲ ብዘይ ብላዕ ጉዳይካ ክሰልጥ ማለት ዘይሕሰብ እዩ።

31 ሚልዮን ኢትዮጵያዉያን ተጸበይቲ ናይ ወጻኢ ረዲኤት ኮይኖም ኣለዉ። ብሰንኪ ኣብ መላእ እታ ሃገር ዘሎ ንመንነት መሰረት ዝገበረ ዓሌታዊ ጎነጽ 8.2 ሚልዮን ናይ ዉሽጢ ሃገር ተመዛበልቲ (Internally Displaced Persons) ኣለዉ። ኢትዮጵያ ብብዝሒ ናይ ዉሽጢ ሃገር ተመዛበልቲ ንበዓል ሶሪያ ቀዲማ ቀዳመይቲ ደረጃ ሒዛ ኣላ።

ሓደጋ ደርቂ ኣብ ዝሰፍሐ ክፋል እታ ሃገር ገና ይጀማምር እዩ ዘሎ። ቅድሚ ሕጂ ብደርቂ ዘይፍለጡ ክልላት ሓደጋ ደርቂ ከጥቅዐን ጀሚሩ ኣሎ። ምስ'ቲ ኣብ ክልል ኣምሓራ ዝካየድ ዘሎ ኲናት፣ ሎምዘበን ክሕረስ ካብ ዝነበሮ መሬት ዝበዝሕ ክፋሉ ኣይተሓርሰን። እቲ መሬት ድማ ንዓመታት መዳበርያ (ድኹዒ) ለሚዱ እዩ ጸኒሑ። ሎምዘበን ግን መዳበርያ ንሓረስቶት ከም'ቲ ዝድለ ኣብ ግዚኡ ስለዘይተዓደለ ምህርቲ ኣእካል ኣዝዩ ከንቆልቁል ትጽቢት ይግበር። እቲ ዝርካቡ ዝፈሪ ኣእካል'ዉን ብሰንኪ ኲናት ናብ ከተማታት ኣይክበጽሕን እዩ።

ኣብዮት ኣሕመድ ግን ኣብ ክንዲ ነዞም ዝጠቐስክዎም ማእለያ ዘይብሎም ፖለቲካውን ቁጠባዊን ጸገማት ኢትዮጵያ ምስ ኩሎም ፖለቲካዊያን ሓይልታት እንዳተላዘበ ብህድኣትን ምስትዉዓልን ክፈትሕ ዝፍትን ናይ ሕልሚ ኣጀንዳ ቀይሕ ባሕሪ ኣምጺኡ ኣሎ።

ኣጀንዳ ቀይሕ ባሕሪ ግን ቀደም ዝተበልዐ ዕቁብ እዩ። ሎሚ ንህዝቢ ኢትዮጵያ ብኣጀንዳ ቀይሕ ባሕሪ ኣንፈቱ ከቐይሮ እየ ምባል ሕልሚ እዩ። ኣጀንዳ ቀይሕ ባሕሪ ኣብ ዘበነ ደርግን ወያነን ዝተቐብረ እዩ። ኣብ 2023 ዓ.ም ኢና ዘለና።

ህዝቢ ኣምሓራ ብሽመይ ኣይትሸቅጡ። ናተይ ቀይሕ ባሕሪ ናተይ ወደብ ወልቃይት እያ፣ ኣዲስ ኣበባ እያ ይብሎም ኣሎ። ህዝቢ ኣምሓራ፣ ብግሊጺ ቋንቋ፣ ንቀይሕ ባሕሪ ዝኸዉን እትረፍ ዶ ንጣብ ደም ንጣብ ረሃጽ የብለይን ይብሎም ኣሎ።

United Arab Emirates gives Ethiopia $1 billion lifeline to ease foreign exchange crisis

Ethiopia’s foreign exchange shortage is due in part to its spending big on infrastructure projects. The current total left in the East African country’s coffers is equivalent to less than one month’s worth of imports, Reuters reported.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is to deposit $1 billion in Ethiopia’s central bank to ease the latter’s foreign exchange shortage.

The sum is part of a $3 billion aid and investment pledge from the UAE to Ethiopia announced Friday. The news came as Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Addis Ababa.

Ethiopia’s foreign exchange shortage is due in part to its spending big on infrastructure projects. The current total left in the East African country’s coffers is equivalent to less than one month’s worth of imports, Reuters has reported.

In April, Abiy said that Ethiopia’s foreign exchange shortage could last 15 to 20 years, and that more cooperation with the private sector was needed to secure the country’s finances.
