What were the criteria used for the selection of Ethiopia before Nigeria, as an example, in the African context?

It was not the economic power of Ethiopia, there are others that are more powerful than Ethiopia.

It was also not the population size, in which case still Nigeria should have been selected before Ethiopia.

It was also not the military power, Ethiopia could be behind a number of other African nation with that regard.

Was it the technological advancement of the country? This is a very critical factor in the future of all nations but Ethiopia is far behind many other African countries with this regard too.

So, these important criteria were not decisive in determining the fate of Ethiopia.

Perhaps historical significance of the country,?

Perhaps the current political, social, economic and other roles the country is playing at the global level?

It can be anything but one thing should be clear for foes and woes alike:

How on earth could a "conduit" be admitted while the target itself was rejected?

If entering a club, leaving the old and resistant to any sort of change club behind, is not rising in your dictionary, then we are already on different planets.

What about its economic potential in a strategic geopolitical location of the world instead of its current economic power? A gateway to Asia from Africa, a gateway to Africa from Asia, not to far from Europe, which means easily reachable from North America. South America is close to South Africa, which is not to far from East Africa. I presume BRICS is about economic potential into the future instead of current economic power.

No, I am not an economist. This is just my intuitive thinking about it.

It has already started to mind boggle the "observers", who are asking how on earth is BRICS (or BRICS-11, as the author dubbed it) is already bigger than ours?

Ethiopia has no money, but the obedience, as an ancient nation, around the world, that made the difference at the end of the day in her aspiration to become a member of the BRICS-Block.

The change in the number of members of BRICS-Block may spell the final admission of an African country in the the so called Veto-powered UNSC (permanent membership). UN Secretary General, Mr. Guterres, has implied in the following video.

If that may happen, which country from Africa will get the most votes to represent Africa there, do you think?

From my side any country can be a member but Africa should have been represented there, it is overdue.

I can tell you, Brics might not last. Last time, the Non Alliance countries back in 70s? dissoved by the West. The same might occur, or West will join and take over. Because China and India have strong ties with the West's coorporation so Brics will eventually be compromised. The loser will be Russia again.
