Eden, I do not know about being "fake" Ethiopian or "Ethiopiawenet." You cannot fake that. By the way, I do not know Ermias Wakejera is an Amhara. If I recall correctly, he milked the Ethiopian politics of tribalization, claiming he is an Oromo to work alongside of Berket Simon. It is interesting now who you are depends on the political flow of the season.
As far as Dawit is concerned, he is an embarrassment. A man as shallow as he should not be a spokesperson for the interest or grievances of Amharas. When I heard his statement that Ethiopia is an Amhara, I thought the guy might have smoked something. If the tribalists try to give the Dawit face to the current Amhara's struggle, I do not blame them. But that is not true though.

All you listed here happen to live in the free western world. If there is no buyer what they are saling they have to close their shop and move. By Ethiopianist I mean what you guys call የኢትዮጵያዊነት ጎራ. I know it is stupid concept, as if they are more Ethiopian than people who respect federalism and self-rule.

On Shaleqa Dawit, he is the legitimate international representative of Amhara Poplular Front as per the party's official press statement and he is one of the most seasoned diplomats with experience of around 50 years in different continents. If he says what he has been saying on media, it is scary to imagine what they tell their soldiers / Fano when there are no cameras!

Eden, those of us in the " Ethiopianist" camp do not claim it is just ours, not belongs to the tribalists. We rather say we all are Ethiopians. Our language and cultural differences that exist between us pales in comparison than what we have in common. That is what we are saying. When you write about federalism do not leave out the word "ethnic." No Ethiopian I know of opposes federalism. But I know many who despise ethnic federalism, which is a constant source of misunderstanding between Ethiopians. I live in US, in which federalism has been well-established. Right now, I could quit my job, sell all what I have, buy an airplane ticket and go to another state to start my life all over again. Take a week rest and start applying for a job. If I am the most qualified person, I get the job despite the fact there were many applicants who have lived all their life in that state. Federalism in action. Imagine the same situation in Ethiopia. Especially imagine the one who sought opportunity in other place being an Amhara, with the enemy label stamped on him for almost half a century. I hope you agree his luck would not be as good as mine. He lives in his place of birth, and I live in place of my choice. But I have more right than he has.
From your writing, I noticed one thing which is disturbing that you are not comfortable with being Ethiopian. You seem comfortable with being Tigrean. The Eritrean claim seems just to sweeten your social media presence.

As for Dawit being "seasoned diplomat," you got it wrong. I read one or two long articles of his a while ago. His mastery of English is impressive, but his political and diplomatic knowledge not so. If anything, his being the spokesperson for Amharas shows the shortage of well-educated, politically savvy Amharas in the diaspora.

It is true that their audience numbers are below Ethio360 and EMS (EthioMS). But what this thread is emphasizing is that what you call 'Ethiopian' media are in reality Amhara medias; in reality they are Amhara360 and AMS (AmharaMS). They are what you call 'tribalist' media. I suspect you probably believe that if it is Amhara media it is not 'tribalist, it is non-Amhara media then it is tribalist.

For a media to be Ethiopian, it has to be multicultural as Ethiopia is made up of 80 plus 'what ever you want to call them'. The Amhara person in your example could have lived anywhere in Ethiopia in Haile Selassie, Derg or the so called 'Weyane' eras. Ethiopian was under a federalist system during 'Weyane era' but that did not stop Amharas from moving to Oromia or Debub Ethiopia. But during Oromara era let alone to move to Oromia and Awasa, he could not move to Kombolcha or Dessie. This has nothing to do with the federalist system.

It shows how shallow tribal politicians are. During the 2005 Ethiopian election Kinijit wanted to have mass meetings in Nazret, and the prime minister of Ethiopia said the "Amhara party" could not have a meeting in an Oromo city, Nazret. How immature and tribal! My dear Forget the Amhara making a living in some parts of Ethiopia, they cannot assemble outside of their region by the order of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia.

Does that mean Kinijit did not field candidates outside Amhara region and Addis? If they did not allow them to have meetings in Oromo cities, then they could not have opened offices and competed there. I thought the 2005 election was democratic until the election day. The problems started during the counting and afterwards.
